Good Guitar for the Sale Price

Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend

Bought this Monoprice Indio Retro Classic on sale at Target. I really did not have much confidence in this being a playable guitar. The Bad- As almost everyone else says, the fret ends need immediated attention. Filed down and sanded the frets...and rolled the fretboard a bit. Dime size pots and a questionable jack. The Good- Finish looks great. Guitar plays well and even stays in tune! Pickups sound good enough that I chose NOT to replace them. Good gig bag. Recommendation- This is really a good looking and decent guitar once you get the bugs out of it. A good setup would cost as much as the guitar on sale. So....If you can't work on guitars and get them playable, you may want to pass on this one.
Ok quality, needs a lot of work. Good entry-level starter guitar if you have experience in making modifications and want to spend extra $$$ on replacement parts.

The title of this one says it all. The tuners are extremely poor quality and will need to be changed out for something of higher quality. The nut is made from cheap plastic and is poorly cut. It too will have to be replaced. The barrels on the bridge set up will also be replaced, they are a cheap allow and need to be swapped out for brass. Surprisingly, the pickups sound ok and the intonation was very good. At MSRP, there are much better guitars out there to consider, and considering the additional $40-50 I will have to spend to make it playable, I'll take a pass. If Monoprice improves the quality of the tuners, nut and saddles this could be worthy of a higher ranking.
Disappointed hope you have better luck

The Price is what has brought me back over 6 times... the quality is what keeps amazing me... for this price you get an unreal deal... Yea... they are not the high end brand names, but if your looking here for that... you go bigger issues. These guitars are an amazing value and I am a newer player and have heard really good players say they can't belive what you get today for the price. I would recomend this to anyone that does care about price and still endorse the quality of these products... at least for the last 6 ones I have ordered!!!
This guitar needed little work to get it playing great.

I received one that is strong through with the 6 saddles, and not the classic style as pictured. Finish is pristine. It needed a few passes with a sanding block to smooth off the rough fret ends, but was otherwise playable after a tune up. The nut is cut too low on the A string so that will need some attention to fix buzzing. A few of the frets are high above the twelfth fret, so I think it will need some leveling, but for $69 delivered to my door, I was expecting to have some set up work to do before it's gig worthy. It's a very good starting point for a project guitar, so I'm happy since I bought it for that purposenin the first place. I'm ready to grab one of the other styles when they go on sale!
Not a good fit for me.

This particular model is I believe a lower end. The frets ends were sharp. The neck was actually not set correctly in the pocket. Causing the strings to be up much higher than they should be. This was not set up by a luthier anywhere that I could tell. I would have never let it go out like this. You screws to adjust the saddles up and down are of a low grade and the Allen wrench will stick and turn inside the set screw socket. It was not a good experience for me. I have bought the Indio model price deluxe models and the boardwalk model. Both those were pretty good shape. I like them both. So for $70 for this blue retro classic. I sent it back. Waiting on my refund.

Looks great. Great paint and fretboard. Headstock has a very small knot but the finish over it is smooth - gives it some character. Action is good, plays well and sounds good. The open B string was ringing a little. It was fixed with a little work on the nut. This is common for any new guitar. The blue color is darker, and it was a little heavier than expected. As others have mentioned, a padded gig bag and Allen wrenches for the truss rod and bridge are a bonus. Well worth the money, especially on sale.

Paid $84. Sounded okay out of the box, still needed a little work to make it sound like a guitar costing hundreds more. A tweek to the set-up, some oil to soothe the dry fretboard, fret polishing and minor nut filing made is a great playing guitar.
Great look and feel but sound wasn't quite right

I bought one of this on sale hoping to avoid buying an actual Tele. It looked and felt great in my hands, but multiple strings buzzed on multiple frets. This was less noticeable when playing chords, but when picking, it just wasn't right. I know that a setup would take care of that, but on a bargain guitar it just wasn't worth it to me. SO I sent it back and bought a genuine replacement.

this is my second Indio telecaster style guitar. The guitar needed the fret ends filed and new strings, but with a little bit of work the guitar is good. On par with Squier, and much cheaper.
Great, budget, guitar which is prettier in person

I bought this guitar because I have another, in blue, that I love and I had a discount. I should have bought 2. The guitar is actually metallic red, not a mono tone. So it is much prettier, in my opinion, that the photo on the web site. It is in great company. This is my fifth Indio.
