Q: Would I be able to control the volume of this unit with my Roku remote, rather than the remote supplied with the unit?
submitted by NMath - 3 years ago
A: Thank you for your question. The Soundbar system is meant to be used with the supplied remote. We do not have any IR codes to provide for this system.

better than tv speakers

sound is great. Only one speaker buzzes and pops after the warranty when no sound is on, loud like a open fridge. Was told it was my electricity outlet. The surround is fun you feel like your in a bar with the tv show/movie background music. Not loud as I wanted room full of music not a house. And it turns on at half volume if a slight inconvenience.
Poor sound, poor usability

I've used a lot of Monoprice in-wall speakers for home theater applications and always been happy, so I was excited to check out this soundbar. Unfortunately, this soundbar + subwoofer has some serious flaws that led to me returning the item: 1) Fatally poor sound quality - Sounded thin/tinny in all sound modes, despite the subwoofer functioning. 2) Bright, always-on status display - the front panel of the soundbar has a bright display that is impossible to dim. In a bright room, it's annoying. In a dark room, it's insanely bright. I ended up putting a piece of electrical tape over that area of the soundbar, though you have to be careful with tape placement, because the IR sensor is located just to the left of the bright display. 3) No settings "memory" - Every time you turn on the unit, it's like the first time. Volume always resets to a slightly-too-loud default. Maybe fun for people who enjoy surprises, but I've personally never run into an audio system that can't remember its previously set volume through a power cycle. 4) Quiet rears with no ability increase gain. I replaced this unit with a similarly-priced name-brand soundbar, and the quality difference was night and day.

Overall, very pleased, especially for the price. The bar speaker and subwoofer perform well, and the bass is actually really good for an 8" speaker. I love how easy it is to switch from Bluetooth to Aux/TV on the remote. Great value for the money. I would give it 5 stars if it were not for the satellite speakers. They are not very loud, and I really cannot even tell they are there. I am not a huge movie buff, so that is not a huge deal.

The soundbar and subwoofer deliver impressive audio performance, but I'm disappointed with the functionality of the two back speakers. The soundbar produces clear and crisp audio. The subwoofer delivers deep bass. The setup process was fairly easy with straightforward instructions. The two back speakers on the other hand barely contribute to the surround sound experience. Their output is so faint that it's barely noticeable. Despite adjusting settings and re-positioning the speakers I heard no improvement. Overall, while the soundbar and subwoofer combination delivers impressive audio quality, the disappointing performance of the two back speakers significantly diminishes the overall value and immersive experience of the system.

I've had this for two years now and I can honestly say that it infuriates me daily. When I turn on my TV the unit will start up and set the input to HDMI initially then poof, it sets the input to eARC which in my case gives me a black screen. Nowhere in the manual is there a way given to address this. . If you pause a show and walk away for a while it goes to sleep. When you turn it back on it sets the input to eARC which once again in my case gives me a black screen. Once again, nowhere in the manual is there a way given to address this. The remote is apparently so proprietary that there are no universal remote codes available for any remote available Bluetooth or not. The sound is good for the price point but the other annoyances, to me, outweigh that one good point. If price is your only consideration, then by all means get it. I'm finally done and ready to move on.

The system was easy to set up. Bass is full and tight, not muddy. Soundbar generates clear dialog and good L/R sound. Surrounds are not loud enough, IMO. Atmos effect from soundbar is effective, but perhaps a little quiet. Hope MP makes a 5.1.4 system (Atmos surrounds) soon!

At first the system worked fine. But after a year, the soundbar started to crackle and hiss and since it was past the year warranty, After various tech support calls with tech support, Monoprice would not replace any part of the system so I am out $400.

Easy setup, great sound, annoying shutoff "feature"

Easy to install soundbar, subwoofer and surround speakers paired readily. Two HDMI inputs and the eARC output made it easy to connect streaming source and disc player to soundbar, which connects to TV. The sound quality is excellent, and the remote control allows us to diminish the surround channel and boost the treble to make dialog audible for some programs with odd surround mixes. However, when trying to watch a program with headphones (no audio to soundbar, but video passthrough to TV), the soundbar shuts itself off after 15 minutes, killing the video signal to the TV. I can find no way to defeat this energy-saving "feature."

This product would not work for me, so I returned it to Monoprice. The subwoofer did not function, nor did the rear speaker, though both indicated that they had paired with the bar. I was disappointed in the return process, as Monoprice sent the RMA in several steps, which caused me to pay $113 for return shipping, which I am still not certain I will ever recover. On a positive note, the refund of my purchase price was processed in a timely manner.

This is a high performing soundbar for the price. I picked it up on sale for 229$ I think it is the best bang for your buck, I have tested better sounding bars but your going to spend 500 or better. So if your on a budget you cant go wrong with this one. Setup was simple, pretty much plug n play.
Very "fine" but no options, surround speaker cord length is major limiter

I really wanted to like this package but ultimately I had to move on to something better. The wireless sub disconnects at least once per hour for about 30 seconds, not enough to totally ruin the experience but enough to really sour it. It only uses all of it's speakers if you feed it an Atmos signal. There's no user configurable surround modes. So 90% of the time it's a 3.1 soundbar and very rarely is it a 5.1.2 soundbar.

Great surround sound...like the other reviews say it doesn't save settings but it's not that big of a inconvenience...only real problem I have is there's not much bass from sub and no settings to control sub
Needs improvement

I'm hoping this soundbar eventually gets a firmware update that fixes the settings resetting to zero every time you change inputs or turn it off. Amazon fire stick does not list a remote control code for Monoprice soundbars so I can only control the volume via HDMI-CEC. Also the unit does not power on via HDMI-CEC command, I have to use a separate remote to turn it on. It shouldn't be that difficult to get those things right. I wish I had spent a few more dollars on a name brand that doesn't have these issues.
Ok, I guess....

The sound is good when the Bluetooth reception for the subwoofer doesn't drop out. Also, why in the world does it not keep the last settings after it turns off?

I liked the product for about 9 months. I took it out of the box and installed in Aril 2022 after a (delayed) room renovation was finally completed. Now sound from the main bar is overtaken by persistent ?ticking? sound which sound like a broken amplifier. However I was told by Monoprice re that since I made the purchase > 12 months ago, Monoprice would not replace the unit. Couple lessons I guess: don?t buy high $ item until you are ready to install and/or avoid Monoprice altogether for high $ items. Disappointed. I would not recommend buying.

Great soundbar for the sale price. Movies and music sound great. As other people have mentioned , the bar does not save your settings, and the front display stays on all the time. If you don't mind these few glitches, you'll be very happy.
