Q: Does the naturepedic organic dual firmness mattress need a mattress cover to go over it?

A: Hello, We would suggest buying an extra waterproof cover. Well the mattress does have a waterproof surface, the cover, if for no other reason, will make cleanup easier. The cover can be placed in the washer + dryer.

No smell out of packaging and fit very snugly in Simmons crib as it should. The infant and toddler sides were marked on a sewn on tag. Felt noticeably firmer on the infant side. Looks very waterproof, but I will still use a waterproof protective cover for easier clean ups.

Excellent mattress. It was worth it to me, even though it so was incredibly expensive, because it is waterproof, dual sided so it lasts longer and I don't have to worry what kind of chemicals my son is breathing in from the mattress while sleeping.

I was really excited to get this mattress after a lot of research. Unfortunately, it didn't fit our Davinci Emily Crib (which is also greenguard approved). We called customer service and they quickly sent instructions for how to return it for a full refund. Then we went to Buy Buy Baby with a measuring tape and found another Naturepedic option that was a little smaller and fits our crib great.
Haven't used yet....so far so good!

I researched crib mattresses of and on for weeks - online and in store. 2 big box stores recommended the Naturepedics brand, so I started to focus my search there. We received the mattress very quickly - less than a week. It was packaged well and it had no smell when removing it from the box. It fits perfectly snug in our DaVinci Convertible Crib (also purchased from Target) and appears to be very sturdy. It does have a waterproof 'cover/casing' but I will most likely add a mattress pad (to make changing night incidents a little easier). Baby is not here for another 2 months (which is why the 4 stars), but all in all it seems like a wise purchase. I LOVE that is 100% organic and that my baby will be sleeping on a safe, chemical-free mattress.

I love that this product is made from organic materials and will be healthier for my baby to be laying on and breathing in for the next few years. The edges are sealed and smooth, no place for debris to hide. The mattress is very firm and fit super snug into my crib frame, leaving no room for body parts to get caught around the edges.

I bought this for my daugher's first baby wanting his sleeping environment to be as organic and free of toxic materials as possible. After extensive online research of all possible options it was clearly going to be a Naturepedic mattress and bedding. The website selector feature and incredible number of options made it so easy to meet all my criteria and preferences with no trade-offs or compromise to be made. Non-toxic materials, no flame retardants which was paramount, perfect weight, made in the US, 2-stage feature, waterproof top. The baby seemed to not like his bassinet or any other sleeping spots until he was put in his crib - my daughter called me laughing and amazed that he was so obviously happy on this mattresss - and the sheets. Very gratifying and worth every penny - I'd happily have paid more for the peace of mind we all have with this quality mattress. It's a perfect gift for grandparents to give and I've recommended it to several friends and expectant parents. So rare these days to find a product of any kind that is "perfect" regardless of the cost.

I was really happy that I found a mattress with this option. I was using the firmer side for a long time because it gave me peace of mind for my newborn. I just flipped it over because my baby is getting older. He sleeps great. Thank you, target and naturepedic, for providing this option in organic form.

I was initially pleased to find an organic mattress at Target. After my son turned 10 weeks and was starting to sleep through the night, we decided to move him from his bassinet to his crib. The first night I found him on his tummy wedged in corner of the side of his crib! He doesn't roll yet, and there is such a HUGE decline at edge of mattress he rolled into wall. [...] We tried it again the next night by first flipping it the toddler side to see if it as rounded .I found him with his head against the edge of crib crying more than once. [...]

Very pleased with the mattress. The baby is sleeping well on it and there were no harsh fumes, chemicals or plastic feeling. It fills the crib snuggly and is very sturdy. I would recommend it.

I like the fact that it is organic and made in the US. It is firm and fits perfectly in our crib, which is a standard size [crib]. It is hard to tell which side is which, though- infant vs. toddler. We put a organic matress pad cover over it, then the fitted sheet over that, and it fits fine.

Wanting a healthier mattress option, I did a lot of research and this brand consistently came out on top. Not only is it organic and odor-free, it is MADE IN THE US!! I have ordered so many other organic products and have been disappointed when the tag says "made in China." This mattress is worth the cost to create a healthier environment for baby. I'm very happy with it. It's worth the sacrifice to buy some other things used and spend a little more on a healthy mattress and support US-based manufacturing.

This is a great product and brand. No smell whatsoever, fits beautifully in my Sorelle Vista crib. The firm side now comes with a sticker on it so you can identify which side is which. All of this brand's products are high quality, love that they're made in the USA! Would highly recommend this. I think the seamless one will be easier to clean up accidents. Got the Naturepedic Organic Cotton Mattress Protector for Crib and after washing and drying that fits perfectly on it.

I really struggled to find a good baby mattress after reading about how typical mattresses can have nasty contents that cause a chemical odor. I didn't want that for our baby, and especially after spending so much on furniture and clothes I didn't want to skimp on the mattress! When I found this mattress, I was so happy to have an option that doesn't contain harsh materials but also isn't as pricey as other "organic" mattresses. I am not typically one to care about something being "organic," but this I think is a good idea... it didn't have an odor at all. I also really like how there are two firmness options, but like the previous reviewer, I wish they were marked "infant" and "toddler" because it's hard to tell which is which without having to test each side of the mattress. My little one loves taking naps in it, and soon he will "graduate" to sleeping in his room at night. I suspect he will continue to love it.

Love the mattress, organic is the way to go, and this is where the money should be spent for your baby. Calm nights sleep and I love the dual sides. Only complaint is that the sides arent marked for infant / toddler so you have to really feel it for firmness to tell which side is which.
