Alright, so when I first bought this, I was aware of the scent reviews. I read it smells “foul” and smells like “dead fish”, so I was worried at first. Yes, at first it smells a little bit weird at first (especially when you’re expecting it to because of the reviews you’ve read), but once you realize it is supposed to smell like golden magnolia, you can definitely smell the floral scent. A lot of these reviews are misleading, so if you’re about to buy this, know it holds great, smells like flowers, and lasts a very long time.

I now have five cans of hairspray that are completely unusable. After many years of exclusively using this product I am unable to continue as the scent is unbearable. As other users have stated, there is a distinct fishy odor that is certainly not what anyone wants their hair to smell like. I can't imagine how this got through product testing. Such an incredible waste of money and irreparable damage to the brand. I will look for another brand. How unfortunate.

What happened to the smell of this hairspray?? I've used it for years and my last 2 or 3 cans have smelled so horrible, almost like something dead is inside it. If others are noticing this, maybe it should be pulled off the market and reformulated. Yuck! I'll try another brand.

I would give a zero if I could, one person said it smelled like fish & others said it was fine. I shook up the can & sprayed it on my hand & it was a fishy smell & then I shook the can up more & sprayed it in a paper towel & really the only way to describe this horrible smell is to say it smells like a dirty maxi pad 🤢🤢🤢 It’s going back to the store in the next few days 🤢🤢🤢

Nexxus, I don't know why you would change a good thing. Maxximum firm has been my go-to hairspray for years for my baby fine hair. But this new product is HORRIBLE! I cannot even get past the terrible egg smell. Whoever agreed to change to this smell, did you even smell it? And it doesn't just go away during the day! It's gross & now I have to go find a new hairspray! Thanks a lot!

Why is nobody talking about this? I just recently bought two different Kenra hairspray and they absolutely suck and I bought this one because it was pretty cheap and I had really really good luck with the volumizing shampoo and conditioner. This stuff is amazing. I usually go for the old school Sally stuff cause I know that works and this is right up there with those products from Sally’s anybody who uses Sally’s products knows exactly what I’m talking about. I’m actually shocked that this isn’t being talked about a lot. I usually pull my hair back wet and it’s really hard to get the flyways to stay down once it starts to dry but my hair has not moved, but it’s not crunchy so I know it’s gonna hold up even better when I style it dry…. I’m really impressed…. as for the smell, everybody keeps talking about. I’m wondering if they got a bad batch because mine smells just fine. It smells like hairspray smell. There’s probably like 10 different scents that you get from a hairspray and I don’t know anything out of the ordinary at all. Ps. I very rarely give five star reviews. This is something I will use forever now.

I use to LOVE this hairspray. It was amazing. Why do brands change good formulas? I cannot get over the smell. It’s so strong and leaves traces on anything my hair touches. This is was an absolutely amazing hairspray that has been turned into rubbish.

I love Nexxus shampoos and conditioners and I used the Nexxus Maximum gold hairspray until just days ago when I purchased another. I noticed the design of the can had changed but I assumed the product was the same. Well,,, I don’t believe so because my scalp itched intensely for the 4 days I used it. I had changed absolutely nothing with my hair care routine. It could have only been the hairspray. I was also very disappointed with the hold. Within 2 hours my volume and curl was a separated stringy looking mess. That never happened with the previous Nexxus Maximum hold hairspray. I’m extremely disappointed with this product.

I am really particular with my hair. Spend way to much on it. I get numerous compliments. However.. i started using Nexxus products to help my color last longer. Sulfate Free. I loved how the hairspray kept my hair looking natural and holding my style.... HOWEVER.. the last one i purchase, the smell was horrid. I smelled it ALL DAY.. Not good.. did not hold style, weighed it down, dried it out. And ruined my exspensive color.. My hair was always in Really good condition. Not now... stop changing the formulation of something that was very good.. buyers... stop buying this, return all of them..
