Q: IT IS MY EXPERIENCE THAT MICROWAVED EGGS HAVE A TENDENCY TO TURN GREEN AND TAKE ON A SULFUR TASTE - HOW WOULD YOUR EGG POACHER PROVE DIFFERENT THAN MY EXPERIENCE?

submitted by Slightly Disappointed - 1 year ago
  • A: Hello, We have never experienced this issue nor had reports of this issue with the Nordic Ware Microwave Egg Poacher. Makes up to two poached eggs and easy to use. Directions: 1. Crack 1 egg into each cup of egg poacher base. Pierce each egg yolk with fork and add 1/2 tsp water to each cup (add water to empty cup if only cooking one egg). 2. For one egg, cook for 30-45 seconds. For two eggs, cook for 45-60 seconds. COOKING TIMES MAY VARY DEPENDING ON MICROWAVE BEING USED. 3. Let eggs stand for 30 seconds before removing to allow eggs to finish cooking. Kind Regards, Nordic Ware Customer Experience team

I received this as a gift. I had no idea it is so expensive. It clicked shut well at first to steam/poach eggs in microwave. After a few uses, it no longer snaps shut to seal the steam in the poacher. I use a plastic clip to hold it, but it does not work as well now and I have to guess how long to zap the eggs. Disappointed.

You will probably have to experiment a little, but it does work. I spray with Pam, and add a teaspoon of water to each side. This item is WAY overpriced at Target. Other sellers sell for substantially less, under $10.

Not good for poaching

I've used this several times now, following the instructions and trying adjustments, and nothing close to a poached egg has been achieved. The two compartments don't even cook at comparable rates, and a weird hinge that allows for complete separation makes this unwieldy to use. On top of that, it's not dishwasher safe like whatever container you're probably using to try to poach eggs in the microwave now. If you want hard-cooked yolks, there are plenty of other microwave cooker options for less.

works great for ONE egg 2nd will always be undercooked and I have a thousand watt turntable microwave. The unit does not stay closed well, can lift and make a mess while cooking.

Cooks poached eggs fast, but you must learn how to use it in your microwave. Not all eggs cook the same just like all microwaves. Learn to adust your microwave power to cook your perfect egg. Add a few drops of water to assist cooking.

You need to know how to program your microwave to get the best poached eggs. Do not cook on high. Cooking results also depends on the quality of the egg!!!!!!!! The finish eventually wears out.

I spray non stick spray before every use and the eggs just slide right out. I also put the pepper and cinnamon in before the eggs too. I cook for 1 minute on high and after 2 years I am now replacing it due to a few scratches and egg particles sticking.
