Q: Hi I was wondering what ingredients are in the food grade mineral oil? Thank you! We are trying to avoid beeswax
submitted by Worried - 23 days ago
A: All mineral oil is petroleum-based. I'm not sure what your motivation is behind avoiding beeswax, but I'd personally take that over fossil fuels any day.

Q: How should these be maintained? Apply more oil, or discard when the oil wears off?
submitted by Karthik - 2 months ago
A: Thanks for your question. OXO wooden utensils are made from solid one piece beech wood. Your wooden utensils should be conditioned from time to time with a food grade mineral oil. This depends on how often they are used, however normally when they appear to be drying out completely.

Dislike the feeling of unfinished wood, I hate the wood feel when cooking. I wish they had some sort of finish on them. Feels worse when it's wet.

I love that the handles are so long. Also, I like that they are very sturdy feeling & have some weight to them. What I absolutely DO NOT like is that after 1 use (and hand washing and drying) the spoon is already rough feeling and beginning to have fine splinters.

I’ve always enjoyed Oxo products in the past. I was disappointed that after 2 months of using these wooden spoons, the wood started to crack and separate. I even added food-safe oil to moisturize the wood, but no such luck!

Initially thought these would be the perfect replacement for cheaper cracked wooden spoons I already had in my kitchen - these felt very well-made and sturdy. But I placed them in my (clean and dry) sink to wash before my first use and noticed a couple cracks in the spoon a few hours later before even washing!! I will be returning. Aaaand my search for wooden spoons that don't crack continues.

Needed utensils that wouldn’t damage my nonstick pans and these fit the bill! The utensils are thick and sturdy, feel high quality
Warped just from stirring boiling water

No Thanks - 1 year ago, Verified purchaser
They all lost their luster immediately after the first wash in hot water- now the finish is dull and a bit splintery. The spoon I used yesterday to stir boiling potatoes, and I noticed later it had warped the bottom of the handle. What a waste of money. I regret this purchase.
