A: Yes. That said, it is sometimes difficult to do so because if you have a recessed frame and your track is a type with a guide in the middle than the bracket will not fit properly unless there is lots of space on either side of the guide. I was only able to mount the top bracket as a result.

A: Great question, Debbie! Although some customers choose not to use the installation screws for temporary installation, we do recommend using them as they provide more stability.

A: No. I just popped mine in since I needed it on my second story floor and didn’t feel the need to use a locking mechanism other than a bar in the door track. But You do have the option to securely screw it in.

Q: can I lock my sliding glass with this insert or does it remain unlockable?
submitted by Morgan - 2 years ago
A: Thank you for reaching out with this question. Yes, you can use the petdoor's locking mechanism rather than the one that is currently on your door.
submitted byPetSafe Brand Expert - 2 years ago
Brand expert
A: You cannot use the blocking mechanism that is on your sliding glass door. You must mount the lock included with the product as well as drill a hole in the stationary portion of your sliding glass door in most cases. Personally, as a renter I was unable to do any drilling like that so I just got a bar to put down.

Q: I ordered the PetSafe Freedom Dog and Cat Aluminum Patio Panel - Small - White. It didn't state the height measurements. Hopefully, it will fit my 91-96 inch sliding door window.
submitted by ML - 2 years ago
A: Did it come tall enough? my door is also 94" high, but there's no selection to choose the taller option.

Q: Can you still use the sliding glass door as usual?
submitted by Jamieaur1 - 3 years ago
A: Yes, but the locking mechanism on the sliding glass door will not work and the seal that is formed between the sliding glass door frame and the door itself does not work for my door. I am having to caulk in the pet door so that it will seal better and also have had to buy weather stripping to put on the inside where the door frame meets the pet door frame.
submitted byNot recommended - 8 months ago
A: Thank you for the great question! The sliding glass door is still usable to enter and exit. It is recommended to also install the lock that is included in the packaging to lock your sliding glass door to the patio panel.

Q: Does it fit vinyl door frame
submitted by Beaty - 7 months ago
A: Thank you for your great question, Beaty. This pet door will fit in a vinyl door as long as the door meets the measurement requirements. However, it is very important to note that vinyl is far more brittle compared to wood or metal sliding door frames. Due to this, we advise that extra caution must be taken when screwing the pet door into place to avoid damaging the sliding glass door frame.

Q: I bought this door and just got it. it says online it is adjustable to 96 in. it is not. I have tall sliding door and this only goes to 80. Why does it say online adjustable to 96 in.?
submitted by customer - 3 years ago
A: Thank you for your great question. There are two height options for this door. One is adjustable between 77 and 81 inches, the taller is adjustable between 91 and 96 inches. We're sorry for any confusion.

Q: This is a brand new door and the top height adjustment piece quite working sometime during installation - not springy anymore. Not sure why. Anyone else have this issue and know how to fix?
submitted by Mama V - 3 years ago
A: Thank you for your question! It sounds like the springs inside the height adjuster may have moved out of alignment. Please reach out to our Customer Care Center at 1-800-732-2677 for further assistance with this matter.
It did fit lengthwise but could not use the brackets to secure the fit on my frame. The top spring fit piece is what holds this unit place with using backer rod foam I had on hand which I put on one side of unit(wall side) to keep centered on track. My dogs do love it after about three days of learning how to go in and out of the dog door!

Design better - 8 months ago, Verified purchaser
The only redeeming quality about this is that it is a door for a dog or cat. The brackets did not fit properly in my track, so I could not put the bottom one on. It needs weather stripping on both sides included as part of the product. It costs $40 to get that and if you don't it will seep both air and noise through the edges. The instructions are trash and include very few diagrams, the video was much better but was not included as part of the instructions. Fortunately it was on target's website. The door does not include a hole for any kind of latch and the lock that comes with it requires drilling into the stationary portion of the sliding glass door which does not work if you are renting. They should be including a bar instead of a lock as such. I only gave it two stars because it is a doggie door, but I almost would prefer to be able to put a hole in my wall than install this.

I’ve used your regular dog doors for over a decade and loved them. I specifically bought your patio dog door because of those experiences. I was really disappointed. - Opening up the package, the rubber window seal was just loosey goosey in the box, completely unraveled with no bag. This kinked the middle. I was still able to install it to the door. 24 hours later, the rubber is lying on the floor. The adhesive strip was still on the door, so it wasn’t an install problem. Your rubber peeled away from Your pre-installed glue strip. Then I had to peel that glue off and use a solvent to clean up the mess. This is a material incompatibility problem. - The instructions for install aren’t clear. Bad verbiage and poor pictures. More pictures/diagrams would be highly recommended for all aspects. A UX designer would have fixed this. - Once I got the door in the frame, I realized there’s a visible gap between the sliding door and the panel. You offered no weatherproofing. When I went to your YouTube channel about the install, just in case I messed up (I didn't, again, poor instructions), YOUR video also shows a sizable gap with light coming through. There are several comments asking about this. Your replies basically say: sorry, go buy some weather stripping. - The lock mechanism is a joke. This essentially renders the sliding aspect of a sliding door useless. In order to open the door, you have to bend over and pull a pin out. So much for usability and accessibility. Didn’t you do user-testing? - Even with your lock, there is no pressure to hold the door tight against the dog panel. I have to use the broomstick method, also recommended by other disappointed users in the comments. Yo… what happened here?

We're so sorry to hear that this door was not to your preferences, Ben! The designs of our products are always impacted by customer feedback, as all of our products are thoroughly tested both by us and customers before design decisions are completed. Though many customers do prefer the lock in the track as it is simple to install and use, if you do prefer a rotary lock we do have these available. These can be seen here- https://www.petsafe.com/product/patio-panel-rotary-lock-kit/ Though the panel does not come with weatherstripping for the slight gap between the panel and the sliding door, as this space is typically very small, some customers do choose to use foam weatherstripping in this area. This can be helpful as it can typically fit into small spaces if narrow weatherstripping is used. Please know that what you have described with your glass sweep is very unusual; so that we can get a replacement set up for you under warranty for this piece, please get in touch with our Customer Care team here- https://support.petsafe.net/ Our phone hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 7 P.M. EST, and our chat hours are Monday through Saturday 9 A.M. – 9 P.M. EST.

The sliding glass door insert is alright, but whenever we their is winds, the flap keeps blowing open letting heat and AC out. Stronger magnets should be used to avoid this issue. Would make the door more energy efficient and save customers money from heat and AC loss. I have the extra large door.

I purchased this to replace an old Petsafe/Johnson pet door that I could no longer get replacement flaps to fit. I was hoping that it would fit the same as the old door, but it is narrower so required me to move locks and alarm sensor. I have yet to decide if the flap works as well as the old 2 part flaps. I have noticed that the magnet doesn't always catch so am wondering how it will be when winter sets in. Other than these personal concerns, I am sure it would be a great door for a first timer. I have 11 cats that use this door many times a day so it get a work out!

Removable Dog Door for Sliding Glass Door
5 out of 5 stars

We needed a dog door for our Doberman Zahara to be able to go in and out during the day and had no place to put a conventional one. Our only logical exit was the Sliding Glass Door or cutting a hole in the wall out to the back porch and we weren’t doing that. We are so glad we found this removable panel that fits perfectly into the sliding glass door opening. It’s not a perfect seal but has very little open area between the door and the panel. It’s very easy to put in just lift the spring top in top and bottom grooves and slide as far to the door frame as possible and shut the door up next to the panel. Zahara loves it!!!

I was disappointed that I had to pay a handy man to install this because it requires you to drill into your door frame. They should include more weather stripping because it was needed. The style of lock could break the glass so that’s kinda dumb. But a piece of wood in the door is just as good so oh well. But other than it’s a good quality and good looking door. I’d recommend this but only if I could include these warnings. The impression I got when shopping around is this is pretty much as good as it gets. None of the dog doors I looked at had (very many or) very bad reviews.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We are sorry to hear that you had difficulty installing your door; although these are intended to be self-install doors and full instructions for this process are included, some customers do prefer to have their doors installed by a handyman service! If you would like to install your lock, please know this would not have any effect on the glass when installed as intended. If you are unsure how to install it after reading the instructions, please contact our Live Support at 1-866-738-4379 Monday through Friday, 8 A.M. to 7 P.M. EST.
