Q: Can this feeder dispense food into two bowls simultaneously if you're feeding 2 cats? Or do you need to buy two feeders in order to feed two cats?

A: Thank you for your great question. On its own, the feeder dispenses into a single bowl. However, if you acquire the meal splitter separately, then this feeder can dispense two meals at once. The splitter's part number is ZAC19-17079

I know they have said this works well with my sizes of Bible but it really does not. Our dog is on adult weight control kibble and it is bigger than the small pellets for regular food. The hopper can be full and the food will not go up through the elevator to go out the front to feed our dog. It’s telling me she is being fed and she’s not. I recently got a job working outside of my home where I cannot listen to how much is actually hitting the floor (we have it elevated so she won’t raid the hopper…she is a lab and very smart). It is frustrating because my dog ate rocks a couple weeks ago because she was hungry and I had no idea she was not being fed! Please do not say this works for larger kibble. There ISa limit. And it gets clogged with the bigger ones. We have to keep it propped in the back so the small area in the back where the elevator track scoops the kibble will actually pick up the kibble and take it up the track to go out and feed her. It worked great for the first year and when I was working from home I knew if she was actually getting food when it went off. Now I don’t! Argh! So disappointed.

While the Smart Feed is compatible with most dry or semi-moist kibble, kibble that is larger or unusual-shaped can make it so that the pieces fit less snugly into the conveyor. I really liked this feeder but one day the LED light turned off and the feeder completely stopped working, must be some electrical failure in the machine. I expected it to last a bit longer given the price.

I've used this feeder for years, and the app has always been wonky and made the feeder mediocre. But it was still usable. After the latest update, the feeder refuses to connect with wifi (despite several factory resets) and now tries feeding at random times, effectively making it worthless. The hardware is fine, but PetSafe's janky software makes me not recommend this feeder.

I have two of these, bought at different times and are on different firmware versions. I haven't seen a way to have the firmware updated either. The "newer" one routinely double feeds even though only one feed is called for. Both are Gen 2.

Top 10 Most Important Household Appliances! Our first smart feeder just passed away after 8 years. This has been so reliable and helpful for our family and pet. We replaced it this week and the newer model was quicker to setup on WiFi and it is much quieter when the food lands in the bowl. We could not imagine owning a pet without this feeder.

As a two cat household, I was having trouble with one of my little gremlins scarfing down his food and then growling at his sister, scaring her away, and finishing off her bowl. This automatic feeder (plus the bowl splitter) has seemingly solved the problem! By dispensing small (1/8 cup) meals, multiple times a day, both my cats finish off their meals around the same time so one can't bully away the other. Not to mention that it creates a more regular meal schedule so they never have to feel anxious that food hasn't come when they were expecting it. This feeder has given me peace of mind that both my cats are receiving the right amount of food every day and has given my cats a regular feeding schedule -- even if I work late or go out of town overnight. Really happy with this purchase and the PetSafe app!

I'm posting this 1 star review in hopes that it will be noticed by the software team that wrote the Alexa integration for SmartFeed. Why on earth would you go to all the trouble of implementing and publishing an Alexa skill yet not spend the tiny additional effort needed to make it useful? The integration only supports a single command that will dispense 1/8 cup of food. It would have been a tiny additional effort to make the common more general like: "Ask SmartFeed to serve {NUMBER} scoops" Even simpler, the Alexa configuration could allow customers to specify a default portion size (like the SmartFeed phone app does!). Then a static command could trigger dispensing that portion. I.e., "Ask SmartFeed to feed a meal" vs "Ask SmartFeed to feed a snack". As it is, the Alexa integration is nearly useless. I spent time trying options for creating an Alexa custom command to trigger the SmartFeed command multiple times -- even going so far as to create an IFTTT account. Sadly, none of that worked. It's really a pity because the SmartFeed is otherwise a fine device. Well-designed mechanically, and with a pretty good phone app. There was a significant investment in creating this product. Given that the phone app supports portion control, it's clear that marketing recognized the importance of that feature and specified that the device should support that operation. Presumably, someone made a bad decision to save a few hours by going with a "checkbox compliant" Alexa integration (i.e., just enough to mention on the product sheet) without actually making that feature useful. If would be fantastic if this could be addressed in a software update. But short of that, please do better on the gen 3 version.

Only had this a few weeks but so far, very impressed. We are away often so it has made it very convenient to feed the dog when we can’t. Capacity appears to be big enough that we can be gone for at least a week. The like the option to feed on schedule or demand as well

I love this product! It's a genius concept. My cats don't portion-control well so this machine and easy-to-use app make it SO convenient to ensure they don't have to eat their dinner late when I work late, since leaving out food for them isn't an option because they will just eat it all! The app has a set-time feature, or a "feed now" option, and you can control how much to feed (in fractions of a cup) it's REALLY great! I didn't realize how "smart" the machine was until I set it up (which was easy to do) and I was thrilled with the many features and capabilities. The ONLY small issue I've encountered has been the food hopper censor reporting the food is running "low"- even though there's still plenty of food left. Because of this censor flaw, it will not dispense food because it detects that it's "out of food" when there's plenty left still. The machine registers as "out of food" when I'd expect it to say "low", and it reports "low" when it's still pretty full. So that makes me nervous if I'm ever relying on the machine if I'm snowed-in somewhere or otherwise away for the night. Luckily this is easily mitigated by just making sure it is really well-stocked at all times, but so far it's happened twice- thankfully I was home and and noticed the machine hadn't dispensed at the daily scheduled time, so no kitties went hungry during this censor flaw discovery! Don't let this stop you from grabbing one of these, though! It really is a fantastic concept that has made cat ownership as a single person who commutes for work so much easier. Just make sure to keep it well-stocked and I'm sure you'll love it just as much as I do.

Once wifi was connected, set up was easy. Feeder holds about a week’s worth of food. I can feed on the spot or scheduled, which is very convenient. If I’m running late from work, I can feed my Labrador from my phone on my way home. He obviously loves it!

My boy inhales his food in less than 20 seconds. Tried a bunch of different slow feed bowls that he laughed at and with 3 dogs the feeder puzzles turn mealtime into a circus! This is a great solution for us and so much healthier for our boy’s digestion.

I don't normally like to write negative reviews. I'm an electrical engineer and have tried to get useful technical support from the company, they know very little about their own product. This is my SECOND unit and it has the same issue..works perfectly for several months then it will just start feeding and not stop, upon feed command. I took the tank area off and checked electrical integrity of the small microswitch which "counts" I'm assuming the turns of the motor, it works fine. This is a firmware/server issue. I don't think it's my wifi but I suppose its possible? Without knowing how the system really works I cannot resolve the problem. I reluctantly must choose another manufacturer as I travel for work and this helps me feed my outdoor mice destroyers (cats). Hope this helps anyone considering this and I wish they would fix the issue.

The feeder also is very noisy. Takes forever to fill up the bowl. I would not recommend this to anyone.

I work odd hours and tend to work overtime several days a week so I love how I can turn on the app and feed my dog from work so she can maintain a routine eating schedule. I can also set the portion size so she stays on her diet. I love how I can also store her kibble in the same feeder so it takes up less space than having bowls and a separate container for her food. Easy to clean. Quite big so keep that in mind

I have several cats and needed a larger capacity bowl but didn't want to leave too much food out. I get notifications when the food is running low and my cats no longer harass me for food.
