Q: How long do you wet the stone? Can you wash the stone in soapy water. Do you have to keep wetting the stone periodically?
submitted by Janet - 1 year ago
A: 1. Soak in water for 15 minutes. Repeat this step once every 3 months. 2. Clean Terracotta Stone with hot water. It doesn’t say soapy water. 3. Repeat every 3 months There are also instructions inside

I'm amazed the size is pretty decent, I actually fit a full bag of brown sugar in and room left over. My kitchen space is at a premium, so I bought containers that fit y cabinets which I fill with my flour and etcetera, what a difference it maked

This softened and freshened brown sugar I thought I had to throw out. The container passed the test! Highly recommend

Entirely too big for my needs. I'm sure there are some people that regularly buy larger quantities of brown sugar, but I normally just buy a pound at a town. Return this in favor of the OXO brandrd 1.1 qt version.
Perfectly Moist Brown Sugar

I’ve had my brown sugar in an airtight canister with one of those bear-shaped terracotta brown sugar “softeners” for years. While the terracotta bear kept the sugar soft, I hated that it had to rest on top of the brown sugar itself, making those parts too moist and gummy. Enter this brown sugar container. It’s perfect in every way. It has the same teracotta piece that you soak in water to add moisture to your brown sugar, but it’s a disc instead of a bear. And the disc fits perfectly into the lid so it never sits on top of my brown sugar. No more gummy parts! Combine that with the fact that you can easily remove the disc from the lid and use it to help “pack” your brown sugar into your measuring cup….I love pieces that multi-task. This size container perfectly holds a standard size of brown sugar and keeps it soft and ready to use. No stale pieces of bread or gummy terra-cotta bears required!
Amazing!

The Brown Sugar Keeper is awesome! It works so well, I’ve gifted it to others. As long as you remember to soak the terra cotta insert periodically, you will always have soft brown sugar.
So disappointing

I hate things that are aesthetic but not functional. The seal is nowhere near sufficient to truly keep your brown sugar soft. I wanted to love this because I’ve always used a brown sugar bear and a glass lock food container for my brown sugar. It worked great but this one looked better and had the built in disc, plus it took up less shelf space. After 2+ months my brown sugar got dry and hard. The only positive is that it looks nice. I went back to my glass lock container with a latching lid and a terracotta brown sugar bear.

I own a competitor brand decided to buy this container when the clip that held the terra cotta insert (attached to the underside of the lid) broke. This meant the insert had to sit in the sugar or in a small bowl atop it - neither option ideal. The design of this one seems better. I’ll update rating if things don’t work.

Received first order without the terracotta disk. Target promptly sent another Brown Sugar Keeper without any hassle. The canister is well made. I have other Prokeeper canisters and am very happy with the quality of these items.
Rock hard sugar

I'm not sure why this has so many good reviews. It's an overpriced food container. I've had it for months now and within weeks the brown sugar was rock hard. I have to scrape it with a spoon. Now I'm not sure how to get all the hard sugar out. I followed directions but it doesn't work.

Does not properly seal. I can put a fresh bag of brown sugar in the container, a fully hydrated terracotta disc in its placement, and within a few days it has all dried out. I use the same terracotta disc that came with the container. I really wanted to like this container, but now I’m out the cost since the return window has passed and I’m out whatever it costs for a new container from a different brand. Save your money and don’t buy this.

I really like this brown sugar keeper. The sugar bear is in the lid, easy to access for dampening. The sugar stays moist, as the container is air-proof. The whole thing is really well made and looks nice, too.
Nice but has a weird seal

The top area where the sugar keeper disc goes doesn’t seem to completely seal. I wish it sealed because I’m worried the disc won’t stay wet for three months, which is how often they say to wet it.

I used it less than a year and it slipped out of my finger from approximately 3 feet off the ground. Seems like a plastic container ought to be able to survive more than that 😖

I have used a Prepworks brown sugar keeper for a few years. My old one cracked forcing me to get a new one. It keeps the sugar fresh and airtight.

A few family members bought multiple Prokeepers. Neither of us liked them. Many of the containers cracked with normal use and in less than a year. Do not recommended.

This thing is insane! I’ve thrown away so many bags of dried up brown sugar but not anymore. How am I just now discovering this? I’ve literally told every mom friend I know about this thing now
