Guests appreciate its versatility in recipes and the bonus of a reusable glass jar. However, some find it difficult to open and use due to its hard texture and oil separation. Wife has used this product for many many years. No longer an easy to use product. Now it comes in a glass type of container that is much harder to get open. Used to come in an east to use ( square shaped) cardboard container. Newer glass containers are not ideal based on the fact that you basically have to use some type of can opener to puncture the top, since the three points system to open does not work. Bottle openers do not work either as lip of metal is too thin to grab onto. Dangerous to handle with having to puncture, and sharp metal now being exposed. In regards to the actual product inside, it is now more like a paste, versus before where it was much more fluid like. Much more spicy in this newer paste form than before, so has to be mixed with chicken broth ,water , or some other liquid to make more edible. The cardboard container said " ready to serve " as it was ready to go as is. Wish that you would return to original packaging and also original recipe used in those small cardboard boxes. Will no longer be a customer if this is going to be your product going forward. Looking at other reviews on here, looks like others are thinking the same. What you already had before was great....

Those having issues opening, I use a church key/ bottle opener. Just go from side to side and lift gently until open.

Please look into jars with twist turn to open tops. I was using this product for the first time was a horrible mess. I ended up braking the glass and having to buy another jar to avoid getting glass in the meal. there has to be easier jars for your mole.

Our family loves the product and has cooked with it for years. However, opening the little glass can is dangerous. The lid says open at three points, but no can opener I've owned in my life has been able to grab under the aluminum lid without poking a hole(s) on the lid and fighting to remove it without cutting myself. I used a knife to lift at the points on the instructions and was. Successful, but that is some life threatening technique to eat some mole. Ya'll work on that lid, its terrible! The mole is great, but the lid almost lacerates me each time
Love it!!!

It amazes me how stupid, arrogant and naive Americans can be. Instead of taking the time to learn about an ethnic product the lazily complain and moan about it. Removing the top is NOT rocket science, people. Plus, you end up with a free glass for juice. Mix it up, throw it in with stock, peppers, onions and garlic and shut up about it!
I won't use this any more after using it for 60 yrs

I have been using this same mole paste since the 1960s. What happened? Tonight I made it as I usually do and it's different? Not the perfect balance of sweet and hot and not even the same consistency. We were very disappointed. Anyone else notice the change?

PEOPLE ARE DUMB!! This is a PASTE!! READ BEFORE BUYING!! Add about a cup or two of broth from cooking your chicken to blender, also add contents of jar, and blend.. You can add more broth depending on how you like mole.. Do lil by lil to your liking.. FRIENDLY TIP. You can get all fancy and add fresh onion, a few more dried chiles, sesame seeds (peeled) to blender. Lots of ideas on internet ONE THING I ALWAYS ADD ARE A HANDFUL OF SALTINES 6-7, WHY? I'm not even sure but always saw my mom and Tia's do it when I was young so I do the same as well, lol yes content is rock hard and there is oil on top.. I usually let hot water run on top of jar BEFORE opening while I'm shredding chicken like 10 minutes or so and found it a bit easier to dig up the paste.. So disregard negative reviews, Doña Maria Mole is PERFECT!!!

I don't have anything bad to say. About the Mole. Taste good, east to use, right out of the box. Goes a long way. One box will make 12 pieces of chicken. Of all the Dona Maria products. Mole is my favorite but far.
Total let down. I will never buy again.

Nothing like Mole. Didn't like that you have to preheat first. Hard texture. Difficult to open jar, hard to get out of jar. I thought I was picking up Mole. My fault for not paying attention to label. The glass jar is what sold me. I'll never buy again. Had to throw away 12 pieces of chicken. Opted for frozen pizza instead. For dinner.

Delicious stuff. Anybody who wrote a negative review because they couldn't figure out how to open a jar, or don't know that substances will separate according to their density when sitting on a shelf, are complete morons. Don't like how oil and a chalky, solid mix will separate? Then mix it up and put it in water or broth like you're supposed to! It's not the company's fault that you're too stupid to open a jar and don't understand the concept of mixing things together with a fork.
I'm learning how to use Dona Maria moles as a base sauce

It's a shame that all the reviews are from novices (like me) who don't know what they're buying & can't open a jar effectively. they didn't get past the basics.. (sigh). One thing I look for is how to use each of the varieties as a base mole as a _starter_; warm in a pan with a bit of stock or water, and to find what else to add to it to develop more flavor levels in the what I finally serve. For the red mole: I'll add extra unsweetned cocoa powder, and some additional toasted ground chiles, plus grated partial tab of Ibarra chocolate. `turns out pretty good. :) `usually I wind up with far more sauce than the jar/glass starts with; and have learned to enjoy this more & more.. Hoping to learn as i "earn" my set of glasses.. Please don't change that packaging to cheap plastic! :)
