Q: Can I use this product if I didn't use Steps 1 or 2 of the system? We're about to start solids and I don't want to give my baby too many allergens at once if that's not recommended.

submitted by Erin - 1 year ago
  • A: Thank you for your question! We recommend starting with Stage 1 Mix-ins to gradually introduce the top 3 allergens (peanut, egg and milk) one-at-a-time first, and then move onto Oatmeal to expand your little one’s exposure to 9 top allergens and maintain exposure to these allergens on a daily basis.

Q: Is this product free of heavy metals? Does it undergo regular testing for heavy metals?

submitted by WHY - 2 years ago
  • A: Ready. Set. Food! products follow all FDA guidelines with regard to heavy metals and to ensure this we have independent third-party labs test our products. Metals are found in the earth’s soil, some naturally and some through environmental contamination. Foods may also be exposed to heavy metals during the manufacturing and packaging processes (https://www.fda.gov/food/chemicals-metals-pesticides-food/metals-and-your-food). Because of this, nearly all foods may contain some level of heavy metals. However, through rigorous processes and diligent lab testing, our products exceed the safety standards that organizations like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) establish. We are also proud to have received the Clean Label Project's Purity Award on our Original Organic Baby Oatmeal based on the results of 3rd party testing, which means we scored above the majority of competitive products when tested for 115 contaminants, including heavy metals, pesticides, and plastics.

Actually Smells Like Oats

Jen - 2 months ago, Verified purchaser
My baby rejected other brands so I decided to try this one. As soon as I added the milk (formula) it immediately smelled like oats. Other brands smell horrible. My baby had no issues with this product. She gets excited and wants to eat more after she takes her first bite.

I am so confused. I have been getting this for a year now because of the iron content and it’s on the Clean label project. The new one I received only has 10% iron and does not match what’s listed online!

For those giving 1 star because their baby had an allergic reaction to it, THAT'S THE POINT lol this has allergens added to introduce them early. It says that on the package. My baby loves this oatmeal when I've struggled to find something he likes.

My baby had a reaction to this oatmeal and the disappointing thing is we don’t know what caused it. It makes no sense to introduce a bunch of allergens at once because how are you supposed to pinpoint what causes a reaction? Stay away from this product.

We are sorry to hear about your baby's reaction. When introducing allergens there is always a possibility of an allergic reaction. We hope your little one feels better soon! Our Stage 1 product introduces peanut, egg and milk one-at-a-time because those allergens account for ~80% of all childhood food allergies, but many doctors are comfortable with, or even recommend, introducing many kinds of foods together at the same time. While starting with Stage 1 offers a more gradual introduction and may make it easier to identify which allergen may be causing a reaction, starting with our Stage 3 product is safe.

This product does not state that it is for the THIRD stage anywhere! I had no idea that it was apart of a multiple stage food introduction. You are supposed to give stages one & two first & introduce the allergens individually!!! I didn’t think it made sense giving them all at once, but my doctor okay’ed it. It made my baby vomit twice and become extremely fussy. The packing needs to be more clear that it is a third stage food!!!!!!

Great to mix with breast milk (needs about 2.5-3.0 oz depending on desired thickness). My son really enjoys it and with the added breast milk, it seems quite nutritious.

I love this oatmeal. Looks super healthy and baby loves it too. The only drawback is it was difficult to get the ratio of milk to oatmeal right with these instructions. My oatmeal came out far too chunky using the tablespoon method, I couldn’t even mix it at that point. Now I eyeball it every time and it turns out okay. If the ratio was correct, I would’ve given 5 stars…

Our baby loves this a lot!!! No allergic reaction at all. We also gradually introduced these listed ingredients after our baby turned 6 months old per pediatrician’s suggestion. I use this oatmeal to make pancakes for my baby (for extra daily protein) and he loves every single bite of them! Even my husband loves this too. I couldn’t be happier!♥️♥️♥️

I have 6 kids and have never heard of anything like this. My 9 month olds allergy doctor recommended that I look for a product like this a few months ago. today I came across this. I was worried because he's picky but I was also nervous because there's a bunch of allergens but I have it a try and he loved it. so far he hasn't had any reactions to it at all. I mixed the oatmeal with my breastmilk for lunch and with his baby food for dinner.

This product is excellent. To ensure your baby does not develop allergies, they should be exposed to allergens a couple times a week. For all of those giving this product a bad review because their children broke out/ had a reaction, I understand your fear/ concern. That being said, the goal isn’t to expose your child to all of these allergens at once. Ready set food has exposure products based on age and slowly exposes the child to different allergens in each of those products. By the time my daughter had this oatmeal, she was already exposed to almost all of the allergens from their previous products but 1 or 2 of them. Before giving this to your child, it’s important to understand best practices of how to expose your child to allergens and the best way to go about doing so. Overall amazing product!!! My daughter loves it!!!

INCORRECT IRON IN PHOTO - ONLY HAS 10% IRON NEEDS

Shni - 2 years ago, Verified purchaser
I don’t know what weird business practices they have here, but I was excited about this being a 2-for-product where I can handle allergens and baby’s iron needs. The online photo / label description here shows 80% iron needs, like 9g or something. The actual package I received had ONE MG — ie 10% — so basically useless in terms of being “fortified with iron.” Their own ready set food website also shows this 10% amount. Super infuriated at the misleading info. And I can’t seem to post Q about this.
1 reply from readysetfood Team team - 2 years ago
Our sincerest apologies for any confusion! The packaging you have received has the correct amount of iron displayed as we have made changes to our oatmeal formulation. We will be updating our listing to reduce any confusion.
