Causes severe "burning" hives

Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend

Had been taking niacin for years and didn’t read the reviews when I bought this. Within a few weeks of taking I would break out into horrible hives if I didn’t also take a Benadryl at the same time. One day I went into anaphylactic shock after taking niacin and then going out into the sun, which required an emergency room visit. The hives and burning were almost unbearable and I am grateful to have realized that it was being caused by niacin. There has been a recent medical journal article published this year (2024) discussing the potential risks outweighing the benefits of using niacin for heart health, and is an important read. The FDA should be reevaluating this product to determine if it should stay on the shelves with so many having adverse side effects.
Proceed with EXTREME Caution - Landed me in ER

I foolishly bought this without knowing the dangers of taking such a high dose. It first hit my husband when he took it and said he felt like his skin was on fire. I dismissed it as a slight flush that I have felt in the past with a lower dose. Well when I took mine, "Holy Cow!" I was burning up and itchy and prickly all over. I went outside to cool off and it didn't help. Cam back in because I needed to sit down because I was feeling nauseous. Shortly after I sat down, while my husband was talking to me he said my head leaned back, eyes wide open and I was snoring. He said it was about a minute before I came to. He called 911 and the paramedics said my blood pressure was dangerously low and took me to the ER. My blood pressure finally came back to normal after about 3 bags of saline pumped into me. The ER doctor was floored that you could even purchase such a high dose.

almost zero flushing with this 'flushing' version, ingredients must have changed

I had been taking this product for 2 years, I was always impressed with the quality/flushing until recently. Note that this is the flushing version. The last 2 bottles barely produced a flush with me taking 2 grams per day (4 caps). I was taking this for cholesterol support and my numbers were very good until recently, a blood test revealed much higher LDL and lower HDL numbers. I then switched to another brand and took 4 caps (2 grams) the next day. This lead to immense flushing for an hour or so. I then took the Swanson brand the next day, with no flushing at all. Until Swanson fixes this, I'm staying with the other brand.

I took 4 of these 500mg tablets, and they had virtually no impact on me at all. Lets call it a rating of 1/10 fluhsing impact. Whereas I have taken 1-3 capsules of other brands rated at 100mg dosage, and they would turn me red and bring on a huge flush. Lets rated that 9/10. So it is clear to me Swanson are aboslutely lying to customers when they tell you there is 500mg of Niacin in each capsules. I would question if they even had 1/10th that amount. And just to be clear this is NOT the FLish Free product. It goes without saying that people MUST avoid wasting money on this product. It also puts into question every other Swanson branded product. There is clearly a reaosn why they sell their products so cheapley. I think you have your reasons why, now.
Feel more energy with the flush from B3

I take at least two hours before I exercise with a small meal. I know it is not time released, but for me, there is a delayed flush up to 2 hours. I changed from no flush to flush, because I really do feel the difference in my body. It is also keeping my cholesterol down, because I feel more energized to workout longer and harder. It is amazing what this B3 does, and it is affordable.

I recently did some blood work and the results came back with me having borderline high cholesterol. I did my research and found out that Niacin is effective in reducing my LDL and improving my HDL cholesterol. It is too early to tell if it is working for me but I will do another blood test in a year from now and that will tell if my cholesterol is within the normal range. So far I feel great and normal.

Sure it's a good product, but it is way too strong for me. Would never order again, but I am responsible for not checking it out. See if your doctor would recommend for you before ordering.

I didn't know about the niacin flush as they call it. It takes some getting used to. I also ordered a food catalog and still haven't received it. Would you please check on why it's been 2 weeks!!!

A dosage of 2000 mg per day drops my cholesterol levels down by around 20 points. Push it up to 3000 mg per day and dropped it by around 30 points. However they should be spaced out evenly during the day so I found it best to take it with breakfast and dinner. Don’t like taking supplements to work and downing them at lunch. Usually forgot most of the time. However inform your doctor and keep an eye on your liver enzymes because some peoples body cannot handle this high dosage. My wife had severe reactions to it but does not bother me at all.
