Q: What is the difference between this expensive "plant based alcohol" sanitizer and regular alcohol sanitizer? Isn't all alcohol made from fermenting sugar, which only comes from plants?????
A: Purell Naturals is the same retail as the other Purell items. Purell Naturals is free of Triclosan, parabens and preservatives. Essential oils are added and it is plant based alcohol.
submitted byChristine - 4 years agoA: This product, Purell Naturals Advanced Hand Sanitizer, uses exclusively plant-based ethyl alcohol as its active ingredient. Some alcohol is created in laboratory and is therefore not natural, but synthetic. Hand sanitizers, in general, use varying different ingredients including ethyl alcohol/ethanol (natural and/or synthetic antimicrobial/antiseptic), isopropyl alcohol/isopropanol (natural and/or synthetic antimicrobial/antiseptic), and benzalkonium chloride (synthetic antibacterial). Other Purell products do not disclose the source of their active ingredient, but Purell Naturals Advanced Hand Sanitizer is USDA certified for bio-based content 93%. It is also naturally fragranced using essential oils, and is triclosan, preservative, and paraben free.

Q: The label says Ethyl Alcohol. The Details says Isopropyl Alcohol. What’s the difference?
A: The active ingredient is 70% Ethyl Alcohol, which is derived naturally in this product. One of the inactive ingredients listed, is Isopropyl Alcohol. Ethyl Alcohol is what most hand sanitizers use as an active ingredient whereas Isopropyl Alcohol is rubbing alcohol. Both offer germ-killing properties.
