Q: can these be set on top of a pot to use as a double boiler for melting chocolate, etc.?

A: Hi MarieG, no we would not recommend using Pyrex bowls as double boilers. Uneven direct heating like that could lead to breakage. Thank you!

Q: Do the bowls have ridges? I can't tell by the photo. I have a set that does and I wonder if I get these will the lids be inter-changeable?

After using for the first time and putting in the dishwasher, the biggest bowl bumped against another one and chipped. Pyrex is sending me a new one but this is incredibly disappointing.

Not the bowls of yester year. These new Pyrex bowl are made with tempered glass and will shatter into shards over time. The pyrex we grew up with was made with Borsonate which is shatter proof glass. My son got injured when he lifted a bowl out the cabinet and the rim separated from the bowl . He had to get stitches. The bowl splintered into shards everywhere when it separated from the rim. Pyrex is not safe to safe to use anymore. They have class action suits against them. They were bought out by instant pot brand.

This is a great set of bowls with lids. The price was great too! I have nothing bad to say about these bowls. The quality is good also. Not too heavy or too lightweight. In my opinion, Pyrex makes good glassware. The size of each bowl is perfect.
