Q: Does the red/green charge indicator light function while charging by the solar panel? If not, is there some other way to tell if the solar panel is receiving enough sunlight to trigger charging?

Q: Will the solar panel charge the battery in lower sunlight conditions (and just take longer than the 8 hours from direct sunlight)? Or does it need a bright direct sunlight to trigger charging at all?

A: Hi Max- Thank you for inquiring about this product. Solar panels work best in direct sunlight, but they can also work on cloudy days and in partial shade. However, they may take longer to charge and may not produce as much power. Hope this helps! - Kris

Q: What is the recommended charge time (from completely empty) using a power supply? Also for anyone wondering, the instructions specify 8 hours (in direct sunlight) for charging by the solar panel.

A: Hello, thanks for your questions. The charge time via the USB cable alone (no solar) is 2-2.5 hours. In lower sunlight conditions, the lantern will still charge via the solar panel, but at a reduced rate. The red-green indicator does not illuminate when the item is being charged solely by the solar panel. One way to check if the solar panel has fully charged the lantern is to plug one end of a USB cable into the lantern and the other end into a compatible wall charger. If the lantern is fully charged, the LED will be green.

My son likes his new lantern for bedtime - as long as I remember to charge it during the day! I love that it can be charged via solar or has an included charging cord you can use. We were using other lanterns and going through so many batteries, so this is a much better option. So convenient that it also collapses so great for travel, too!

I wasn’t sure if this would be worth the price or not but took a chance and I am SO happy I did. Our power went out late one evening and I grabbed this. Cast great light, adjustable settings and weighs almost nothing so easy to take place to place within the house. After that night, I went back and purchased two more. I lay them flat next to a window so they are always charged and ready to go. These will be a favorite purchase of yours too, I’m sure of it. Can’t go wrong.

I charged it Thursday night, Helene hit & power went out early Friday morning and this lamp was in constant use until power was restored Sunday night. We got this little lantern to use in hotel rooms for a nightlight. It collapses so flat that we lay it on the dash in the daytime when we are driving, and it recharges for the next night! Because it is so lightweight, and it folds so flat, I can pop it into my purse to transport it between the car and the hotel room. When we are not traveling, it can slip easily into either the glove box or the door pocket of our vehicle. We also love that it can be quickly recharged via a standard charger and the included cable. Because I require the use of a mobility device, I like to have a little bit of light to navigate hotel rooms at night when we are sleeping. I have an S hook we carry with us so we can use it folded flat or extended, hanging from a shower rod to illuminate the bathroom in a hotel room. Sometimes we will pop up the lantern, and put it on the floor, or on the sink board, next to the doorway of the bathroom to help with safe navigation at night. Three light levels means that we can make sure there is sufficient illumination for safety, without creating so much light in the bedroom area that it disrupts sleep. I keep one in our travel bag, and we keep one in our safe room, for use during tornado season. Definitely recommend!

I am an avid camper/hiker and I tend to be a tad particular about my gear. That being said, this little latern impressed me. You will be hard pressed to find a lightweight solar latern this good at this price point. It is sufficiently bright for a tent and a late night bush wee. I use only a 55L hiking backpack. Space and weight are important to me. This lantern takes up very little space and is very lightweight. Not having to bring spare batteries helps to further lighten my pack too. Are there smaller, lighter, better lanterns out there? Sure there are, but you will likely pay triple the cost of this latern or more. If you're a more hardcore backpacker then it may be worth it for you to invest in a more expensive latern. However, for everyone else, I highly recommend this Embark solar latern!

I bought two of these lamps knowing they’re not “flashlights” so much as “nightlights”; perfect for my young campers. They’re rechargeable (USB or Solar) but I have to say it was cool (esp. to kids) that they worked right out of the box. The handle on the top is ratcheted so it can function as a kickstand, too, if you need it to make shadow animals. There are three levels to the light – 60, 20, and 10 lumens – and each button push downgrades the light. Kids figured that out quick. Overall nice product. Bit pricey for what it is, but if these survive cubes scouts camping and recharge quickly, as I think they will, they’re worth the investment. Probably better if you catch them on sale.

I really love this Lantern. The material is perfect for the outdoors. This is made for the elements, and if you drop it, it will be just fine. I like that is can collapse all the way down when not in use. The lights it gives out is good. I like that this can be charged either by solar or USB-C. I have used this every night for the past 2 weeks and I have yet to have to physically charge it up as I have the solar part facing the sun during the day. This lets me know that the solar aspect of this works great! I highly recommend this!

This little lantern is very convenient. It folds down flat making taking it anywhere easy and it’s rechargeable via USB as well as solar powered. It has 3 light settings so it can get brighter down to a nightlight. It’s really cute and great for kids.

Ahh! I am in love with this little contraption! I am absolutely obsessed with how compact it is while still yielding a brilliant amount of light. The handle is detachable which makes it super easy to hang from basically anything. Did I mention that it's also sort of…cute!? This light has 3 settings, and each is discernably different. I also adore that it comes with a tiny USB charging cord, though it is solar-powered as well. Perfect for the outdoor enthusiast or just to keep on hand in case the power goes out!
