Extending router range to make my bell work

5 out of 5 stars
mamanbonplan_ - 6 months ago
originally posted on influenster.com
My Chime genuinely makes my life better - plugged into a socket in my kitchen, it’s marginally closer to my doorbell situated on the front gate and allows the bell to pick up enough signal to function. Without it, despite being less than 20 metres from my router, my doorbell is ignorant to any and all SSIDs that I have available. It also provides an independent doorbell chime and light when someone rings the bell - really useful when our phones are unavailable for some reason - as well as providing a low level nightlight for our kitchen in the evening (light sensitive). I’m totally convinced of it’s usefulness and recommend to those with similar circumstance and needs.

Great in home chime that connects to my doorbell. It is not as loud as I expected but does the job.

Hi FJB. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are always looking for ways to improve our neighbor's experience, and your feedback is an invaluable part of this process. That is why we are dedicated to offering devices that help you safeguard what is most important at home, while also allowing you to connect with your neighbors from anywhere. We’re glad to read that you are finding the provided features useful. Your Ring Chime can play audio alerts when motion is detected on your Ring device or when someone presses your Ring doorbell. Ring Chime was designed with the ability to customize the type of sound you hear when an event takes place. We recommend following these steps to choose the best sound for Chime alerts for your environment: Open the Ring app. Tap the top menu (☰) and then Devices. Select your Chime or Chime Pro device. Tap Audio Settings, then Chime Tones. You'll see two tabs at the top of the screen: rings and motions. Tap Rings and select your favorite sound. Chime will play when someone presses your doorbell. You'll hear an audio sample when chosen. You can also adjust the volume with the slider. Tap Motions and select your favorite sound. Chime will play when motion is detected on your Ring doorbells and cameras. You can also adjust the volume with the slider. I do enjoy self monitoring the front door with this system, but the only drawback is that it cannot contain videos for later viewing. If just had a port for a memory chip. It's an overall good working system for me.

Ok when it works

Got asked for this review just as I started having problems. So, it's useful when it works. Currently says it's offline yet still sending me alerts. Have tried to reset it but no joy yet. Every six months or so there's a random issue usually fixed by restarting it which takes about 20 mins, finding the special screwdriver etc
1 reply from Ring team - 2 years ago
Hi Benwwww. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. At Ring, we understand it is essential to have your Ring Chime online and working properly so you can keep your home secure. Being able to rely on the alerts to know when someone is at your door is an essential feature of the Ring Chime. We want to ensure your device is working as intended by providing you with solutions to resolve the concern you mentioned in your review. It sounds like your device is falling offline. There are a few things to check to ensure your device remains online. First, make sure your Ring device has the most updated wifi network and password. Then check other devices around your home to see if they’re connected or disconnected to wifi. If other devices are not working, there may be an outage in your area. You can also reboot your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plugging it back in again. Visit our support center for additional tips and tricks: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000308463-Why-Your-Ring-Device-May-Be-Offline. Ring Community was launched to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our neighbors. This online forum is divided into four categories: Product Boards, Ring Updates, Tips + Tricks, and a Moderators’ Corner. The Product Boards are where you can begin new topics with your questions or feedback; there is also a search option that helps you find topics that have already been posted by other neighbors. We invite you to visit our site at https://community.ring.com/ today. All the best, Nicole from Ring.

Door bell quite working, this was an easy fix

For me, it was easier to get this and plug it in, than try to trouble shoot or fix the wired in door bell. It didn't take long to set it up to the ring device we have. We can hear it well, and we are happy with the product.

Gen 2 is much better

My gen 1 died after 2/3 years. Setup was instant. And I am not sure if gen 1 has this option but it now has ability to turn the chime on for motion or notifications too. We didn’t get too many doorbells. So even after the gen 1 stopped working for awhile. I honestly did not know or realize it. With this new feature now, it chimes pretty much daily for me to know it still functions.
