Book Synopsis
IN BANEFORD, EVELYN MAY'S DISCOVERY OF A COLONIAL HOUSE WITH A TROUBLED PAST LEADS HER INTO A WORLD WHERE THE DEAD WALK AND SECRETS ARE DEADLY.
In "Ritual at Dyeworks," the second book of Ali Kaden's Baneford series, real estate broker Evelyn May finds herself at the heart of a sinister transformation. After a mysterious explosion near her office, Evelyn, alongside the spiritual medium Adrian, delves into the town's shadowed past, uncovering secrets that refuse to stay buried.
When a prestigious development group, led by the enigmatic Ursula Hyde, plans to renovate the dilapidated Dyeworks tannery, it seems like a boon for Baneford. But as Mayor Jenkins supports the project, hoping to revive the town's economy, unsettling occurrences begin to surface. The tannery, with its dark history, becomes the nexus of unexplained phenomena, drawing Evelyn and Adrian into a vortex of spectral hauntings and cultic legacies.
Amidst the town's transformation, they encounter a cult with deep roots in Baneford's past, whose sinister agenda threatens to use the development project as a façade for darker purposes. As Evelyn navigates through the intertwined fates of the living and the dead, she realizes that the redevelopment of Dyeworks is a mere front for the cult's ritualistic ambitions, aiming to awaken a malevolent force that could consume the town and its residents.
With its blend of eerie hauntings, a mysterious cult, and a town on the brink of change, "Ritual at Dyeworks" offers a thrilling journey through the haunted legacy of Baneford, making it a must-read for fans of ghostly suspense and dark historical mysteries.
For fans of the haunted atmospheres in Shirley Jackson's works, the complex characters of Stephen King's small-town sagas, and the intricate plotting of Dan Simmons' "Summer of Night."
Review Quotes
"It all began with an explosion...
Evelyn just coming off the fight of her life is finally settling back into life managing her own real estate business and living in the town she has called home her entire life. It seems like a lifetime ago but in reality; it has only been a few months since she last saw the man that helped her save her town.
Adrian off doing what he always does, helping people, but he can't seem to let go of Evelyn. After finishing a job, he is having visions of the beautiful woman with the green eyes but just like last time he can sense the danger shrouding her.
Adrian wasn't wrong because Evelyn has gotten herself tangled into another man and it isn't until it is too late that she realizes this isn't what she wants. When Adrian shows back up like the white knight, he is Evelyn is grateful except, he didn't come baring good news because the evil at work in Baneford is back and she is at the center of it.
As Evelyn works on getting Dyeworks back up and running to bring the town not only jobs for the locals but maybe put Baneford back on the map strange events start occurring. Will Evelyn and Adrian be able to stop the evil or will they be back where they were all those months ago with no answers and only fear.
Gah, this review was difficult to put down. I wanted to say so many things about the story, but I just couldn't. This is my second Ali Kaden book, and I am learning his books are best to be devoured without knowing too much! I do suggest reading book one The Past Awakens because both Evelyn and Adrian's story begins there.
Grab a cozy blanket, a cup of tea and be prepared to not want to move until you have finished the very last page!!"
"Omg Ali you have done wonders with this ending!!! I am so in love with Adrian and Evelyn! I'm so glad that Adrian returned even though it was due to a vision. But first I don't blame Evelyn for trying to better her town, just hate it came with a major cost and that was to release evil once again in Baneford. I'm so glad that nothing happened to Casey I feared many times something was gonna happen to send Evelyn into a darkness. I'm thrilled that the darkness wasn't fully able to overtake Evelyn and I think it boils down to her love of ther close circle as well as the love she has for her town. I find it fitting that she broke Adrian "curse" per say without Murfu ever being asked to tell Adrian. It was pure the words she spoke allowing Adrian peace now and being able to stay with her. Brava for an epic sequel!!!"
"This book will hook you from the get go, and you won't be able to put it down. It's an absolute page turner from the beginning, and remains that way until the very end, and I was here for it. When Evelyn tries to get the factory up and running to help her town out, she soon realizes that outside developers have a different plan, and it's not a good one. This fast paced story will keep you on the edge of your seat. Check it out today."
