Book Synopsis
THEY WOKE THE PAST. EVELYN MAY'S ROUTINE LIFE AS A REAL ESTATE BROKER TURNS SINISTER WHEN SHE STEPS INTO BANEFORD'S HAUNTED LEGACY.
In Ali Kaden's "The Past Awakens," Evelyn May is drawn into the heart of Baneford's darkness after listing a colonial house with a troubled past. Unbeknownst to her, the property harbors a haunting secret that ensnares her in a chilling narrative, blurring the line between the living and the dead. As the town's eerie past encroaches on the present, Evelyn, guided by the mysterious Adrian, a spiritual medium with a cryptic connection to the supernatural, finds herself caught in a web of spectral hauntings and dark secrets.
Their paths cross under ominous circumstances, sparking an uneasy alliance. Adrian, with his knowledge of the spirit world, becomes both protector and guide through the spectral mysteries engulfing Baneford. As Evelyn delves deeper, her initial skepticism fades, replaced by a terrifying reality--Baneford's haunted history is not just folklore, but a living, breathing menace that threatens her sanity and life.
"The Past Awakens" is a gripping tale of ghostly encounters, unexplained phenomena, and a quest for truth that leads to the heart of a town's cursed legacy. Kaden masterfully weaves a narrative where each revelation brings Evelyn closer to the abyss, with Adrian's enigmatic past and intentions casting a shadow over their journey. Together, they must navigate the haunted corridors of Baneford's history to prevent the dark past from consuming the present.
Similar to the psychological depth of Stephen King's small-town horror, the atmospheric tension of Shirley Jackson's ghost stories, and the layered storytelling of Neil Gaiman's "The Ocean at the End of the Lane."
Review Quotes
"This is wonderful book for readers who enjoy ghosts, eerie twists and turns, and true friendships! There's an evil presence in Baneford that will destroy a town and its people if he cannot be stopped. A book I could not put down. I'm looking forward to reading the next book!"
"Very well written and engaging"
"I'm new to Ali Kaden but man oh man what a read this was. I was so afraid that i wasnt going to be able to finish the read, but let me tell you as i kept reading i feel more and more in love with the story and his writing style. At first I felt bad for Hendrick once learning his name but then learning the darkness of his soul i found myself praising the towns people of Baneford for rallying together and destroying him. Then here comes Evelyn and her tragic story being 9 and losing her father the way she did, but I loved that her and her mother didn't let the sadness over take them per say and gained a stronger friendship as she got older. I hate she lost her mom too. Then enter Adrian and man oh man he's something else. His dedication to his gift or curse whichever you call it. I'm glad he gave Evelyn alittle bit of happiness and he was able to bask in thay for a small time. I hate that he left in the end they would've been incredible together and I believe she'd had stood by his side through everything. Queue the best friend Casey and man she is what you call the ultimate best friend never leaving your side or never not trusting your words... All around amazing story!!"
