Schumacher Farm & Ranch Automatic 12 V 200 amps Battery Charger/Engine Starter

I have enjoyed using my charger for three years. Now it has a short in it and it does not work. Very very disappointing.

The charger itself does the job and is solidly built. It's worked well for me to charge low automotive batteries and start cars with weak batteries. The manual is poorly written and difficult to follow. It has a tendency to tell you what the charger can do, but not how to use the charger to do it. Also, there is no picture in the manual telling you what each button is. The manual will say things like "To select the Charge/Maintain mode, press the Rate Selection button." Nowhere in the manual does it tell you which button is the Rate Selection button. Every time I give this charger to someone to use, they end up asking me to set it up for them and asking, "now which button do I press?" Section 10 of the manual is useless because it doesn't tell the user which button it's describing.

But this turned out to be a lifesaver. My car had been sitting so long it wouldn't start. This was so easy to use and I was able to charge me battery and save myself a tow cost. This product seems to be very well made and is definitely easy to use. If you live in a cold area, have an older car, or even if you work with a lot of cars I recommend you buy one of these. You will not be disappointed.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Schumacher FR01335 200 Amp 40 Amp 6V/12V Fully Automatic Smart Battery Charger 200/150A Engine Starter and 40A Boost Maintainer works for batteries at a 6 and 12 voltage. The charger is heavy at about 25 lbs. The casing is made out of metal and seems to be very well built. The handle makes it easy to carry and manage to weight but there is nothing to wrap the electrical cord around which makes it easy to get caught. The clamps open widely and are fairly stiff to clamp tight on the battery. This charger was used on our battery and when put on the battery detected the power. One of the things to note is to follow the directions accordingly in precleaning and preparing for application into the battery. We did not clean the battery at first and it had some issues detecting it. It got better after we followed the instructions. It was able to jump start our car with good power at a 12 v/200 amp battery. The leads helps on well into the battery and was easy to jump start. The battery charger did pick up the appropriate battery voltage. This should work on larger vehicle provided they have the 12 v or 6 v battery. The thing that may take a while is charging the battery which which can go from 2 to 6 amp. This is quite slow. There is a small chart that compares battery charging times to the current used and is based on a 50% charged battery. It’s important that the fan is running all this time to prevent the device from over heating. We have not used this feature but would find it useful if we need to charge an RV or tractor rental. Overall this worked for us to jump start our car and our neighbors car which had the headlights on over night. It made it easy to connect and take tot he car but I do wish the cord was longer as it recommends avoiding extension cords. That hard to do if the car is on the street and not your garage . This has worked well for us and will be of use in other times as well.

This batter charger has clear and bright digital screen that display text what to do next after turning it on. It even displays OFF when the switched is turned off. It has upper case "CONNECT CLAMPS" after turning it ON. There's a START&STOP button on the front. It has led light for buttons too if you're charging standard,agm, and gel batteries when charging this kind of batteries. High quality and great for heavy equipment. My daughter forgot to close the glove compartment in our car and the light in it drained the battery out. I like the reverse hook up protection,it worked well.I am a short person and didn't pay attention on the color in my car battery,it didn't damage my battery or the charger . This car charger is a must have! It's fast and work magnificent.

It is not complicated to use if you read the directions. We had some large equipment and it works very well charging my tractor battery. I also love the auto feature that automatically selects whether you want to charge or maintain the battery. We also have atvs with the gel cell batteries it is very nice that the charger has that option along with the Anti-glass Mat. The reverse hook up feature doesn’t allow you to hook the battery up the wrong way. The cables that come in the charger are sufficiently long enough to reach all of my batteries. Overall this is a very good option for the farmer or shop. I would highly recommend this product I am very much impressed.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far it works great keeps charge it is a little heavy one of the complaints I do have is a handle even though it's made out of heavy plastic I think they should have gone with metal considering how heavy it is and I wish it had somewhere to hold the cables but besides that it does seem to be very well-made works great and it comes in really handy.

It is a lifesaver and always handy to have one around especially when you live in the country. I definitely recommend this battery charger!

I used this battery charger to charge it and it worked great and saved the day so I could still make it to work. It is a very powerful charger and made very durable. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After my older traditional wheeled battery charger died I looked for several weeks for a good replacement. After searching several box stores I felt frustrated that I would not be able to find an appropriate replacement. I wanted another replacement that would last me with my medium usage for at least another decade. Some of the features that I needed for this charger were heavy duty construction, ability to charge agm and gel cell, and automatic function. When this charger was delivered I was impressed with the overall size and construction. This is a very large and well built charger, make no mistake this is not a light stripped down unit. I first charged a slightly discharged marine battery. At first impression I liked the really simple setup on the charger. Hook up the charger to the terminals, select battery type, and charge rate. The charger went into a boost mode to rapid charge and then switched to a lower amperage setting. The marine battery was at 12.4 voltage and was completely charged in less than an hour. I am really impressed with this chargers automatic function. It seamlessly charged the battery without my interaction and utilized the boost function. With previous units I would have to select high amperage or low amperage and live with the downsides of either choice. When reviewing the user manual I was amazed that this charger has a desulfation mode. I am a Ford technician and we have a very expensive charger at work to accomplish this task as a high rate of batteries are needlessly replaced for this condition

On top of that I'm a bit OCD and believe you get what you pay for. I didn't want one of the plastic housing chargers that you see in chain stores and didn't have room to store one of the large ones on wheels then I found this beauty. When you pick it up, it's obvious that it's made well. I love that the cables disconnect for storage. It makes it very easy to store it w/o having wires all over the place. VERY good quality. I could not be happier with this thing.

It’s very sturdy and has nice quality cables. It’s not made cheap at all. It is a heavier than I thought. I made a little stand with wheels for it. It charges batteries a lot faster than I would of thought. It has a nice big digital screen with multiple options. I highly recommend the schumacher - FR01335 for at home or at work if you need a charger.
