I just purchased double-sided clear, indoor-outdoor, mounting strips. What am I missing? The tape is advertised as being double sided tape. The description on this web page says adhesive on both sides. There is no adhesive on one side. There should be two (2) backings (in your words 'liner'). There is only on -- where the adhesive is. This 'tape' is worthless. The packaging looked promising. The performance is zero. It doesn't even deserve a rating of 1.

Removing the clear strip to expose adhesive side was absurdly difficult and resulted in much wasted product.

Scotch Mount Clear Double-sided tape is very difficult to use. I tried cutting several pieces and was unable separate the backing. I ended up throwing the tape out.

All of the negative reviews here are from people who lack common sense and basic knowledge of DIY, have unrealistic expectations, or both. This product is INCREDIBLY strong if you USE IT CORRECTLY. If you expect it to adhere to a low surface energy substrate like foam or cardboard, then no, of course it isn't going to work well. If you use it on a proper HIGH surface energy substrate like glass, acrylic, ceramic, plastics, you know, things that you can expect it to adhere to, it is phenomenal. Of course if your intelligence quotient is mid-50s and you try to put it on things like wallpaper and then remove it, then you will be unpleasantly surprised at how difficult life can be. I used this product to mount emergency lights to interior vehicle glass when there was no other practical option, and to get them off I had to inject Goo Gone with a hypodermic needle between the tape and the glass to remove them. Even then, they STILL took a significant amount of effort and left residue behind that I had to clean off. Fantastic strength when used PROPERLY. Pro tips: CLEAN your surfaces with alcohol. Isopropyl, methyl, ethyl, I've found it doesn't much matter. If it's a surface you cannot clean with alcohol, guess what? NOT INTENDED FOR THAT SURFACE! Avoid touching the tape with your fingers. When you adhere, PRESS HARD AND HOLD IT FOR 30 SEC! The only con I would agree with is the backing tape CAN be very difficult to remove. The best thing I've found is pick at it with the sharp point of a knife until it comes up and can be grabbed, or using a VERY sharp razor blade, slice into the backing to create an inner edge you can pick at. Either way, have the tape already PROPERLY ADHERED (see "30 sec" above) to whatever you're trying to mount.

I love this product. Been using it for decades. Cuts best with scissors with a steep bevel edge, as do all adhesive products.

I am so dissatisfied with this product that I considered shipping it back at my expense. I thought with the SCOTCH name it would be as good or better than Gorilla Mounting tape, NOT so.

HEAVY DUTY FOR TOUGH TO HANG ITEMS

I WORK AT A GROCERY STORE WHERE I HAVE TO HANG SIGNS ON THE BRICK WASS OUTSIDE IN THE WIND AND WEATHER. THIS IS THE ONLY TAPE THAT WILL HOLD THE SIGNS ON LONG-TERM. THIS PRODUCT IS NOT A PRODUCT THAT SHOULD BE USED ON OR WITH DELICATE ITEMS. IT WORKS GREAT TO HANG HEAVY PLASTOC SIGNS ON WINDOWS AS WELL.
Too difficult to use.

I purchased this product this morning. I was looking for something a little stronger than double sided tape for some hobby work. The positive is that this has strong adhesive and I was able to make it serve my purpose. The really big negative is that it's so difficult to use. The adhesive backing is very, very difficult to remove and I almost gave up. Perhaps some "best practices" directions could help. Wouldn't buy this again.

This product is not very easy to use but the package does have some instructions. The most important instruction is to wait at least 30 minutes to try to remove the backing strip. But even then it's difficult. I saw one posted recommendation to scrape the backing to wrinkle it and then carefully lift at the wrinkle with a small, sharp knife blade. I used a sharp knife to wrinkle and lift. It would be helpful to add this information to the package.

This is terrible! I just spent a half-hour trying to move the transparent covering on one side. The white paper side comes off easily-but the other side is impossible!! Might as well have put my money in the nearest garbage can.

Knowing how to remove backing makes it very good

Works very well on clean, dry surface. REGARDING BACKING: Here's my trick. Pull a mm or 2 of adhesive side of tape (opposite from backing) and stretch it out. The tape stretches but the backing does not. Then edge of backing separates and is easy to remove. The stretched piece of tape can be trimmed with a blade. OR -- if 3M has better method than print/publicize/post it!!

The available side bonds well. However, double sided tape suggests the other side is meant to be used also. Apparently, the tape works and bonds so well the second side is already bonded to the “slick” side making the tape useless if you want it double sided. Very disappointed in product and can’t believe 3M doesn’t supply info, tips, or instructions to use their product.

This is a great product when used and applied correctly. Yes it is super sticky, hence the difficulty of removing the backing and in cutting with scissors. I mounted door sensors with it and am very pleased.

I am amazed that a product would be sold with NO ability to remove the backing!!! I had to resort to a Youtube trick, using a dress makers pin...literally felt like I was performing surgery. I will NOT buy or recommend this product to anyone.

We are sorry to hear you are having difficulties removing the liner. We would not expect the product to behave this way, when the one side is applied to the item. However, we are not able to advise or recommend using for ceiling applications for safety reasons and texture concerns. Worst Product I've Bought in Years

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I cannot think of a product that has frustrated me more than this one! To the point I was screaming! First, you can't cut off a piece. No matter what pair of scissors I use, the tape sticks to much to them as I cut, that I can only get cut halfway through. Then it is stuck so much to the scissors, that I often ruin the piece trying to get it off, even before I finish the cut! And for the pieces that I DO manage to get cut, after I apply them, I can't get the stupid backing off! So half of the remaining pieces are then ruined as well, as they come up from the shelf I just applied them to. What a piece of crap!

Tape has POOR adhesion to the material you want to hold. However, it has MASSIVE adhesion to the clear top that you're trying to peel off. WORST double sided tape EVER.

There are a couple of things you need to be aware of when using this product: 1. Removing the backing is tricky. Running the teeth of a comb diagonally along the corner of the tape works although you might need tweezers to finish. 2. This stuff is seriously sticky. It sticks to scissors making cutting difficult. If you put just a tiny drop of oil on your scissor blades before cutting you can solve this problem.
