About the Book

"Brooklynite Eva Mercy is a single mom and bestselling erotica writer, who is feeling pressed from all sides. Shane Hall is a reclusive, enigmatic, award-winning literary author who, to everyone's surprise, shows up in New York. When Shane and Eva meet unexpectedly at a literary event, sparks fly, raising not only their past buried traumas, but the eyebrows of New York's Black literati. What no one knows is that twenty years earlier, teenage Eva and Shane spent one crazy, torrid week madly in love. They may be pretending that everything is fine now, but they can't deny their chemistry-or the fact that they've been secretly writing to each other in their books ever since. Over the next seven days in the middle of a steamy Brooklyn summer, Eva and Shane reconnect, but Eva's not sure how she can trust the man who broke her heart, and she needs to get him out of New York so that her life can return to normal. But before Shane disappears again, there are a few questions she needs answered. . . With its keen observations of Black life and the condition of modern motherhood, as well as the consequences of motherless-ness, Seven Days in June is by turns humorous, warm and deeply sensual"--

Book Synopsis

Seven days to fall in love, fifteen years to forget and seven days to get it all back again . . . From the author of The Perfect Find, this is a witty, romantic, and sexy-as-hell new novel of two writers and their second chance at love.

Review Quotes

I can always rely on Tia Williams for a novel with a delicious plot, compelling characters, and all of the pop cultural references my heart desires. Seven Days In June is nothing short of a good time. It's funny, thoughtful in both a real and thotty way, and its protagonist Eva Mercy may not know it, but she is my new favorite pretend writer.----Michael Arceneaux, New York Times bestselling author of I Can't Date Jesus and I Don't Want To Die Poor

In Seven Days in June, Tia Williams conjures a seductive fantasy-rich friendships, star-crossed lovers, artistic fulfillment. But Williams, a canny anthropologist of contemporary urban life, is writing realism, exploring personal pain, family entanglements, and the negotiation of black identity in a world defined by whiteness. The result isn't escapism (though the book is a delight) but a vision of life at it truly is: complications and difficulties punctuated by profound joy.---Rumaan Alam, author of National Book Award finalist Leave the World Behind

A Slow Read but Still Worth Reading

Overall, I would give this book a 7 out of 10. I would consider this book to be a "slow read" because I felt that it took a while to get to the point where I was interested in the book. To be honest, I only finished the book because I started it and did not want to start a new book without finishing this one first. Although this book was not my absolute favorite, I would still recommend this book. Eva and Shance both lived somewhat separate lives and it was nice to read how their passions brought them back to each other.

More than a romance

4/5 Stars 2/5 Steam Rating *Alternating 3rd POV; BIPOC & Chronic Pain Rep; Check Triggers/Content Warnings I’ve heard such great things about this book and I’m so glad that I was finally able to pick it up. I went into this thinking it would be a bit more of a romance story than it ended up being. Yes, there’s a romance element to this story, but it read a bit more like women’s fiction. This is a raw & emotional story of the seven days Eva & Shane spent together as teenagers, which had a lifelong impact on both of them. I loved all the representation within this book, especially the chronic illness representation. This is a large part of Eva’s story, but never once did it feel it in a “woe is me” kind of way, instead it was just something that she had to learn to live with. If it up to me, I would have changed two things. First, I wish that we kept to just Eva & Shane’s POV. I didn’t feel like the pother perspectives were really needed and only diluted their story a bit. Second, I wish that the author would have made the epilogue as another chapter and gave us a shorter epilogue to close out Eva & Shane’s story. In the grand scheme of things, these are small adjustments but they’re what prevented it from being a 5star book for me.

What a Beautiful Story

I could not put this book down. This novel takes the reader on such an emotional journey. I’ve never been so invested in two characters!! Their journey compels many introspective moments, honestly, I'm still thinking about it. Also, I never quite knew where their story would go, unlike in most romance novels. Go get your copy now!
