SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo

Shea Moisture products have been my absolute go to for well over a decade. Unfortunately there have been many ingredient changes, and not for the better. After using this strengthen and restore shampoo. The leave in conditioner as well (which had been my favorite) I had itching scalp and the skin exposed to the shampoo. Many sores on scalp after use. I take fabulous loving care of my hair and I am more than offended by the changes this company has made in its products. Well, back to the hunt for healthier safe hair and skin care.

I had an eczema flare up and this time around my scalp was peeling, dry and red :( nothing worked. I randomly got this shampoo and it worked so well!! My scalp is really soft and not flaky. I'll continue using it. Smells nice as well.

Made my hair very dry and frizzy

I used to love this shampoo until I realized the formula changed. Unfortunately I didn’t realize it until I just recently used it & my scalp started to burn immediately. I literally have red sores on my scalp. I’m so tired of these hair companies & their shenanigans with formula changes. As soon as consumers find something they like, they go & mess it up. Quit trying to fix what isn’t broken!

This is the absolute WORST shampoo I’ve ever tried! I never leave reviews but I usually love this brand and I’m disappointed. Leaves behind so much soap and buildup in my hair no matter how much I rinse.

made my hair feel so nice, but had to use it in small amounts. if used too frequently the proteins would cause breakage. so i just had to find a good balance and it became my favorite

I should have read the other reviews before repurchasing. This use to be my favorite shampoo out of all of them in my rotation. It left my scalp so clean, but not stripped. I have long hair and this made it less weighed down at the roots due to how cleansing it was. No build up and was one of few that stopped flaking. Not anymore. The new formula is the complete OPPOSITE. Does not cleanse, creates terrible build up. Literally, useless. I’m so disheartened. I contacted the company who confirmed the formula changed. They offered condolences and a coupon, which I haven’t even received.

It smelled amazing but I guess there was a formula change and using it on my straight hair was not the move. It felt waxy, and stiff, and I couldn’t stand the feel. Doesn’t mean it won’t work for curly hair!

I switched over to this shampoo after trying many other and more expensive options. I won't go back. My hair is healthier and has gotten so long.

It cleaned my hair nicely, but I had bumps and a rash all over my scalp, first time my head was itchy, second time my scalp broke out in hives.

As a newcomer to this shampoo, I can't say whether the old or new formula is better. I can, however, say that I am impressed by the results using the current formula. The shampoo has a pleasant, floral and herbal scent and a rich, fine lather that felt great on the scalp. After washing, I let my hair air dry after scrunching and plopping with a microfiber towel as usual. My fine and naturally curly hair dries smooth and feels totally light and clean after using this shampoo. The first time I used it, people thought I had gotten a haircut and a professional blowout! A bit pricey for the amount in the bottle but still worth it for the results.

Love using this shampoo, it is very clarifying with good ingredients. It does not cost much and last a long time with good smell. The package quality is also great.

I have type 2C curly hair. I never cared particularly for the health of my hair, but one day I decided to "splurge" and buy this Shampoo and it's matching Conditioner. It has worked wonders on my hair! My hair doesn't tangle as badly as it did before, my hair feels softer, it absorbs water easier, and my hair dries more evenly. I will definitely keep using this!

I’ve been using this for a while to help With my thinning hair. It has been working slowing in growing it back, just have to Be consistent

Love this product! It makes my hair feel clean and smells wonderful. I also love that this product uses clean ingredients and isn’t tested on animals. Plus it uses minimal packaging and the bottle is recyclable.

I’ve been using this shampoo for years now. I noticed that my most recent bottle gave my hair a much more greasy feel and then I saw that they had changed the formula. I won’t be buying this product anymore.

This use to be my favorite shampoo now that they changed the formula it’s terrible. My hair has body (which I don’t mind) but it’s dry and feels like it has a residue. I’m also a hairdresser for 20 years so trust me I can see the difference. I use to recommend this to my clients. I won’t be anymore. It use to leave it shiny & healthy….not anymore. Go back to the original formula Shea!!! Its not the same anymore!

I have used this shampoo for years and I have LOVED it. It leaves my hair healthy and shiny, with no residue and a great scent. I have absolutely LOVED this shampoo for so long. I have always bought it straight from Shea Moisture. Just this month I learned I can't buy it from them anymore and I have to go to Target. I figured they must have sold? I went to Target today and immediately noticed it was different because you usually have to gently shake the bottle because the ingredients separate. I saw it said "new improved creamy lather" but it always had a great lather so I was a but suspicious. I read the ingredients and noticed a bunch of ingredients that weren't in it before- random chemicals. I really love this shampoo so I bought it anyway. I just washed my hair with it a couple hours ago and it has a different scent. It's not as nice. My hair then dried and I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW MUCH RESIDUE WAS LEFT ON MY HAIR. My hair wasn't even shiny, it looked dull. I used to LOVE this shampoo bc it made my hair look so shiny and beautiful. Now it looks dull and clumpy because of all the residue left on it. I just called my friend who has been using it longer than me and we are both sadly on the hunt for a new shampoo now. I'm returning mine to Target. SAD. I LOVED this shampoo. I just had to re-wash my hair to wash this shampoo out with a different soap becasue it felt so clumpy and residue-y it was bugging me. SO SAD.

It's a pretty clarifying shampoo, I'm not in love with the scent of it but it definitely did strengthen my hair and make it feel squeaky clean. It's a pressure thick shampoo so use at your discretion.
