Q: Hi there, I was just trying to clean this with a disinfectent cleaner and all of a sudden this coating starting to come off of it when I ran it under water. What is that coating? I've never seen this.

Q: Can this work as a freestanding unit, without the suction cups, just sitting on the counter on its own?

If you don't rely on the suction cups to hold it, it's a good purchase. I hung it with sires around the faucet base, and it's been serving me well.

This sponge holder is hefty, large enough for two sponges and the metal is thick. This sounds like a good thing, but it makes it hard to mount. The instructions say to clean the area and add petroleum jelly to the rims of the suction cups (kind of bizarre, but makes sense when you think about it), and you really do have to do this, or it won't stay up. I'd prefer a lighter holder that doesn't require this.

Thought I'd try and save a few bucks and replace the Oxo sponge caddy that had lasted me a solid 7 years with something cheaper, and well, I got what I paid for. The suction cups wouldn't stick to a perfectly clean stainless steel sink, even with a bit of water.

I have been using this sponge holder for many years. It doesn’t rust, and works well. After years, the rubber suction stops working and needs to be replaced, but that happens after at least 2-3 years of use.

Easiest way to drain my sponges without it accumulating water on the top of the sink. I just leave it attached to the side and there’s plenty of room left. Did start rusting though which is odd for something that would get a lot of water on it.

Perfect to hold one sponge. I ordered it again when I moved. The first one was still holding up well after 2 years, but I didn’t feel like packing it. On occasions, it has fallen off but sticks back on easily. This only happened 2-3x over the 2 years.

Amazing quality, heavy duty, and holds up so well! The only thing is that the suctions cups sometimes will slip on the inside of my sink due to the heaviness of this and then a sponge but will restick easily when dry.
