Q: Hi, I love the Old formula as I have allergies and it did not have a scent. I can not use the new formula. Will you still be producing the old formulas also? If not you have lost a lifelong customer,

submitted by Luciditi - 2 years ago
  • A: I have been searching for the unscented, too, after many years of use. I am allergic to perfume! There is nothing "fresh" about perfume, only more chemicals. Please return the old recipe to shelves

submitted byMary - 1 year ago
  • A: Yes, the smell changed and I do not like it. I buy the Trarget brand,Up & Up, now.

submitted bysensitive to smells - 1 year ago
  • A: I agree completely. It is awful that after all these years of using this Softsoap product that Colgate would change the formula without making the original unsented available anymore.

submitted byJeffS - 2 years ago
  • A: Haven't you heard, so many people want your old formular back! What is mean when you say "Our goal is to make a wide variety of hand soaps with amazing fragrances so everybody can find one to enjoy"?

submitted byJeffS - 1 year ago
  • A: We’re sorry our new fragrance didn’t meet your expectations. Our goal is to make a wide variety of hand soaps with amazing fragrances so everybody can find one to enjoy! Please call us at 1-800-255-7552 M-F 9:00 am to 5:30 pm EST so that we can make this right for you.. We look forward to hearing from you!

Q: WHY is there yellow and red dye in your aloe Vera soap? I stopped buying the clear soft soap after years of using it when I found out it had violet dye. I thought the aloe Vera did not have dye years ago…why now? Sorry, you just lost a 20 year customer.

Q: Is this soap antibacterial? It doesn't say so anywhere on the packaging.

submitted by Cathy - 5 years ago
  • A: Hi! This particular variant of Softsoap is not an antibacterial. All of our Softsoap Hand Soaps when used as part of proper hand washing will wash away bacteria. The Antibacterial Softsoap variant is clinically proven to eliminate 99.9% of bacteria* while doing so. In terms of COVID-19, the virus is so new that neither we, nor other companies that we are aware of, have tests specifically for it. The CDC and the FDA say regular handwashing, particularly before and after certain activities, is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and prevent the spread of germs to others. Hope this helps.

Summary of reviews

The recent changes to the hand soap formula have left many guests disappointed, particularly due to the overwhelming new scent and drying effects on the skin. While some guests appreciate the moisturizing qualities and the initial pleasant scent, the majority express a strong preference for the original formula. The soap's ability to clean effectively remains a positive aspect, but the new fragrance has overshadowed its benefits for many loyal users.

This was the best soap until the formula changed

We had a lot of the large refill size bottles used to fill up all of our soap dispensers. The only product we have used for years because i have sensitive skin and many of the other brands make my skin crack from being dry and bleed. Plus, i loved how there was no major scent or perfume. Apparently we finished up our supply of softsoap we had on hand, so we bought another bottle. The bottle looked a little different, but the product inside looked the same. Then noticed that there was a very strong scent left on my hands. I figured someone in the house had mixed up the soap dispensers and put in thr wrong soap. It didnt take long before my hands started to become very dry and crack. This wasnt an issue before... then inlook online and apparently nobody likes the change in formula. We all agree that it smells bad and is harsh on the skin. This was a very popular product that many people with allergies or other sensitivities would use because it was gentle and unscented. Not anymore. Gonna find a new brand and throw this one away. Boooooo!

    Drying. Irritating. Cheap, overpowering scent.

The previous formula was geat. Mild scent. Gentle on hands and moisturizing. Whoever "improved" the formula ought to be looking for a new career. This hand soap no longer moisturizes the skin. In fact it dries out the skin. The red and yellow food dye irritates the skin. The scent is overpowering and just smells cheap. Never buying this hand soap again.

I don' t know what I can say that hasn't already been said. I am scent-sensitive, and I have used this product exclusively for many years. I have bought gallons of refills - I was a loyal customer. I bought my first bottles with the new scent recently, and it is appalling. It's cloying, it lingers, and it triggers my migraines. There are so many scented hand soaps for the lucky folks who can enjoy them. Why steal this one away from the rest of us?

I cannot believe that this white hand soap contains various numbered dyes! My son is allergic to red food dye, and this contains red 33. He had a reaction. It also contains Sodium Benzoate which is known to cause hyperactivity in children. I’ve thrown this soap out and will never buy it again.

Used to be a great product and I used for years. Now it’s just garbage & that’s where mine went. Not moisturizing but dries hands out. They added a fragrance which smells strangely floral & clings to skin. Skip this choice & move on!!!

Been buying this stuff in gallons for over a decade. Now they’re adding some scent I’m horribly allergic to. Only CHEAP perfumes do it. Now, trying to get rid of this stuff out of my soap pump has put this execrable smell all over my house and given me a blistering headache. Shame on you guys! What marketing or product guru said, let’s add a smell it doesn’t need, and what brilliant engineering team didn’t test it on people with allergies? All sorts of people are leaving the same review about these products. Means you were either cheap to test it or even research how selected ingredients in the formulation are known to affect some consumers. And if you tell ME to call YOU in your reply, Colgate, after I leave my email below, we know also what you think of customer service.
