What we learned about picking out our knives in Boy Scouts: to earn our "Tote-N-Chip" award; was what to look for in a knife. The SOG Kiku XR-Blackout fills out all the suggestions and then some! Great materials, solid construction, stays sharp- A dull knife is a dangerous knife was told to all of us many times, and can be maintained properly. All of this is in The SOG Kiku XR- Blackout plus a lot more; that is proven by actual use in the field, whatever your outstanding field is.

I truly wish the blade was a little longer. Also offered with a maybe some serration. However other than that. The knife is great. Never had a bad product from SOG.

I really like the design and the weight of it. Weight may seem to be an issue to other users, but I am 6' 4" at 265 lbs and this is just right. Although it does seem front-end heavy, its purpose what I use for is just right. The look at feel of it is on par with the websites description, although, it still does not feel 'tanto'ish' enough. I read that some people have an issue making it flip out using their thumb, like there is too much restriction but it is a heavy knife, and if you are trying to flip it upright, you're doing it wrong. Flip it horizontally or blade pointing down, its really not that difficult. This blade receives a lot of scrutiny because it was 'made in china'. A lot of things are made in china, and this blade handles well. Go use a stone chisel if it upsets you. The blade came to me dull, which kind of sucked, but I have improved its efficiency using a Work Sharp portable pocket; but may just take it to have it professionally sharpen.

So I lost my original satin blade and bought a Blackout as a replacement. The weight, balance, micarta slabs, and unique curved blade are all fantastic. So then I found the satin amongst my yard’s mulch. It was frozen shut, but some WD40 and Qtips eventually cleaned it up. After 3 seasons outside, it is slightly pitted on the axel, but the herrings run smooth, and after sharpening, the blade is as good as new. No wobble when locked open.

Great knife for outdoorsman or every day carry. It’s actually my second, bought the blackout to replace my old orange one that I lost, some how fell out of my bag on a hike. My old one was the carbon fiber model but personally I like the heavier weight of the original, it just feels more substantial.

I have carried mine now for a few years. Blade shape lends itself to almost any job. I have beaten this knife, and it asks for more. Easy one handed opening, and imo more importantly closing. Between this and my Ultra XR (when pocket space or event calls for a smaller knife) I have no need for anything else.

I would give it five stars but the lack of ability to adjust the pivot point of the blade to either tighten it or loosen is it. Wonderful knife over all well crafted and sharp. The blade shape and the jimping truly help with gaining purchase if needed. Fits wonderful in my big hands. Hard to find a good feel for a handle that you know you can use all day and still be comfortable in hand. Over all wonderful knife. I would recommend this for sure if you are looking for a very sturdy knife that sits well in the pocket on the job site or in the back country or for jobs around the house.

Definitely happy with my purchase. It seems like a sturdy knife and like the texture of the handle. Has a good grip to it. Also like the locking mechanism as well. Beautiful knife. I wish the pocket clip though was a lil more strong though cause it can get snagged on stuff depending on your work environment. It got caught on some stuff I use at work and now it can easily slide outta my pocket where as before it was nice and snug.

I bought this knife primarily because of the CTS-XHP steel the blade is made of, I'm a big fan. I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not due to the blade being a little shorter than what I typically carry, but I have to say that I was blown away by the build, feel. and weight of this knife, and it's now my primary EDC. I like it so much I bought a second one to keep as a backup...I may get a third. Great knife.
