A: Thanks for your inquiry. The Sony STRDH590 is a modestly price surround sound receiver capable of driving a large variety of speakers. Polk Audio offers affordably priced bookshelf and center channel speakers which are a compatible with the Sony. Polk TSi300 tower speakers with CS10 center channel and then add a pair of TSi100 for surround speakers would be a great sounding and affordable setup. Add the HTS 10” Powered Subwoofer. From there you could take a look at Klipsch options, as well as many others.

I bought this receiver a month ago and it has plenty of features and power. The only thing I wish it had would be bass and tremble knobs on the front panel instead of the tv display to make your adjusts but it's no deal breaker for the price.

Malfunctioning After A Year Of Use

Bought this a little over a year ago for Christmas 2023. Right around this past Christmas (2024), it began to malfunction by switching to PROTECT mode after being on for a few minutes, and then shutting off automatically. None of the troubleshooting procedures for this problem helped and in fact when all speakers and other components were completely disconnected, the problem still occurred. So Sony support said they would repair it under warranty. I was fine with that so I sent it in to United Audio to be repaired. The latest update on the repair status says that the unit is "not repaired-parts needed are not available." So a product that is still being offered as a new item cannot be repaired because parts are not available. Great. Now I have a useless receiver that lasted a little over a year, that I have to recycle. Very disappointed because I really have liked my past Sony purchases.

Hi Dale180, This is not the experience that we want you to have. Sony's commitment to customer satisfaction is our top priority. Resetting the receiver may help resolve most issues: 1. Turn off the receiver. 2. Hold down (power) on the receiver for 5 seconds. “CLEARING” flashes on the display panel for a while, then changes to “CLEARED *”. Note: It takes a few minutes for the memory to be cleared completely. Do not turn the receiver off until “CLEARED *” appears on the display panel. Hope this helps. Just bought this the day before cuz my Pioneer receiver just quit working. But it was 15 years or so old. Getting this Sony receiver hooked up and so far it sounds pretty good. Still have to get the tv paired with it

I love it! Incredibly good sound for the price. Always works and is easy to use. Also has a useful set of audio effects. I link it to my computer, both for my online therapy business and to listen to audiobooks and streaming hi-res audio. I've been buying Yamaha receivers for over 40 years and I like this one better.

Bought this to go with my new Sony 4K smart TV. Set up was pretty easy as the Sony TV and DVD recognized everything including what HDMI port you should be on. Sound quality if pretty good, although I would like more customization. I have cranked it up yet for music of during a 4K DVD but hope it will sound great.

I am happy with this purchase. Sounds good, however there seems to be some slight humming noise created by the power transformer. I wish the manuals were more complete, as I had to go to the Internet to find out how to setup the FM radio presets.

Power off your receiver and unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Leave the power cord disconnected for at least 60 seconds. I bought this to replace a 23 year old TEAC AG-D9100 that died. It took about 30 minutes to connect and test. The auto calibration setup was easy and fast. Quality sound with various options depending on the input media. It turns off automatically when I power off the TV and Media source, and turns on automatically when it identifies the TV and media have been turned back on.
