I've had this sunjoe leaf mulcher+shredder for about 3 SpringSummer Seasons. It worked great! The Shredder shredded green weeds and redwood needles for mulch and for composting in my garden. Unfortunately this Spring 2024 the on/0ff button is difficult to push in and the motor won't stay on!!!!. Both of my thumbs are exhausted from trying to turn the machine on. I've cleaned inside and the dust sponges but the on/off switch won't go on or won't stay on. Very frustrated! I'm not sure I want to take it apart to clear the on/off button connections. Do I really need to buy another shredder? Couldn't Sunjoe make a better on/off switch like the chipper?
Electric leaf mulcher / shredder did a fine job.

I've owned the Sun Joe SDJ616 for around 4 years now. It does a good job of shredding the leaves. It does not clog given the design as gravity feeds it. Here's what I don't like.. I feed it with a snow shovel. It can't handle anything more that a few handful of leaves without someone standing over top pushing them down. In fact, forget about this being a one man operation unless you have some small in the city postage stamp yard. My son feeds me the leaves and I push them down. They should offer the hopper in a bigger size with a wider opening to allow a larger volume to flow through.

I bought this for grinding my horses hay so he can eat is easier. I'm amazed how great this product performs. it does eat trimmer line!

This does a pretty good job on dry leaves, but wet leaves tend to be completely shredded that they end up in a mush that needs frequent cleaning. I have had this for 5 years, and did not use it two of those years. It would not start when I went to turn it on this year, after removing the motor housing and and securing wires, it started to run, but if I turn it off or move it, then I have to remove motor housing and repeat the process. It's very frustrating likely to fail. I won't be buying another for this reasonthat they don't offer any replacement parts for the motor, which is clearly the item most son.

We are always trying to find ways to use what we have and this is a great tool for creating mulch from the numerous piles of leaves we have every year. We use the mulch in our gate den to keep the weeds down and loosen the soil. It’s basically an inverted weed wacker with a big tub to drop the leaves into. It has rubber around the edge to keep your hands clear and a nice size tub for dropping leaves into. It blows through leaves pretty quickly to make fast work of a pile of leaves. I was given this item to test and it’s so worth it. All my neighbors keep asking to borrow it over and over again.

Based on the performance of other products we own and the ratings of others, I bought the leaf mulcher. It works great on both wet and dry leaves and shredded what would have been about 8 bags of leaves into a tidy bag and a half! No clogging, just finely shredded mulch. Highly recommend.

This shredder works well for my purposes. I use oak leaf mulch on my gardens, and it produces a good quality product. I ran 30 bags through it, some being wet, and it stood up to the task!

I wish I had found this 20 years ago! My house is surrounded by large trees, mainly oaks, which hold their leaves longer than most other trees. So dealing with leaves goes on well into the winter months, with final clean up in the spring. But this spring, clean up was different--I had found the Sun Joe shredder. It made short work of piles and piles of leaves. It was easy to assemble, easy to operate, and worked efficiently. The best part was the beautiful end product which I used to mulch my planting beds. What a bonus! It comes with replacement string, but I ordered an extra package just to have on hand. I've had no trouble replacing worn string. I use a needle nose pliers to help me grab the string and pull it out, but that is only because my 72 year old hands are not all that strong. The adjustable legs are also a great feature. I was able to set it up on a slope and keep it level and stable. I've used it with both wet and dry leaves, including small twigs, and it handles it all with ease. I watch for larger branch pieces as I am loading the hopper and toss them out. If I happen to miss one, and hear the clunking in the shredder, I just shut it off and pull out the piece. No problem. The controls are simple and easily accessible. Count me in as a big fan of this product! Looking forward to using it again in the fall.

The power is better than the one I returned. I did not have to stop once and wait for shredding to clear. I don't (but should) need hearing protection -- it is not as loud. I did not have to change cutting line. Line provided said "What else ya got?".

I loved this leaf mulcher for my garden and composter material. However, a month after my 2 year warrantee expired, it stopped working completely. I ordered and paid for a replacement, and now continue with my mulching. Still, I am disappointed that the 1st one died on me. I have about 7 Sun Joe products, and love them. I never contacted the company because of the expiration, though only by a month.

Works great! We have large oak trees that usually takes 8 huge recycle containers and condensed it down to 2. Had to replace the nylon lines twice due to twigs intermingled with all the leaves Worth the money- save a ton of time

I live in a community that is built in the woods so needless to say we have leaves. Boy do we have leaves. I have bagged them, mulched them with mulching lawnmower and the leaves always win. Finally bought the Sun Joe Electric Mulcher/shredder and I’m now winning. Very easy to operate; very easy to replace plastic mulching strips and breaks the leaves down to great mulch.

The machine itself is easy to use and was helpful for me to chop hay for a horse that could not swallow regular hay. It was awesome in that respect. I did find however that the chopped product does tend to get caught up in the area just under the hole to feed in the stuff you want shredded. It then needs to be removed. I also wish the string would last a little longer but these are minor things in the overall performance. Customer service is excellent on this product as I had to return my first machine because of a switch problem and the replaced it with free shipping and a prepaid voucher to send the othe machine back. Very awesome service.

I called him Joe, He never slacks off his job, works tiresly doing the tasks for me. He is a great worker. Never needs a break. I love having Joe out in my barn chopping hay for Festus my 38 year old mule. I recommend him. I will be using his skills this F,all for mulching leaves too. He is a keeper!
