I love everything but it seems I maybe didn’t do something right. My filter in on the tank and the tetra cart is in the filter but my problem is that the water seems like it’s overflowing the filter and my water in the tank is about 5-6 inches from the top of the tank? Is the water in the filter supposed be at the very top of it or no? How can I fix it?
Overall decent

I've been using these in my bait tanks for years. I keep chubs, minnows, bluegills, perch, suckers and shiners. Most of the time they're over crowded but not for long. Filtration is a must.
No instrux or decent picture of assembled product

I have bought these in the past, but they were always assembled. Buying the larger box this time, I discovered that I would be assembling the filters myself. No problem, except there are no instructions and the pic doesn’t show how this thing is supposed to sit in the tank. I then didn’t rinse the carbon dust off of the cartridge this time (because no instructions). Hopefully my currently sick fish (Ich from the pet store) make it!

Thank you for your comments. We are disappointed this product did not meet your expectations. Instructions are on the back of the box, with full color pictures. The cartridge does not sit in the tank, it slides into the slots on the filter system. Not rinsing will not harm the fish. We hope this eases your mind. So that we can assist you, email petsupport@spectrumbrands.com.

I have maintained several 30 gallon aquariums for over 30 years, from angel fish to goldfish. Tetra Bio-Bag is still my to go to filter. I have added media to the charcoal for keeping ammonia down in my goldfish tank, these goldfish lived 8 years. Currently, I have angel fish that are 4 years old. The ready to use filters are great, but the unassembled ones are my backup filters. Thanks Tetra, for making a great product.

I have 2 fish tanks and each tank has 2 filters in them. I went to purchase new filters and found out the small size was discontinued. the last time I purchased them I got 2 boxes of 6 count ones. I am so disappointed and now have no idea what to use to replace the small without buying 4 new filters.

We are sorry to hear your store has apparently discontinued the small size cartridge, Diane! We have never made it in an unassembled variety nor in a 6 pack but have always carried it in an assembled 2 pack. We still do. Please contact our Care Team at 1-800-526-0650 so they may help you find the right size cartridge for your filter.

I've been keeping fish for 30 years and have always used these, but they're so thin now, I can't stand them! I have to fully change the filters every 3-4 weeks, it's terrible.

Thank you for your comments, TieDie; we are sorry that this Tetra product has not met your expectations. It has always been recommended by our company, since we began making the Whisper Bio Bags, to change them at least every three to four weeks. After four weeks, the carbon is no longer effective at all, and the floss is much less effective at catching detritus, even when rinsed. We value your business, TieDie, and want you to know that Tetra strives daily to manufacture quality, innovative products at a reasonable price in order to make this an enjoyable, stress-free hobby for our customers. It is apparent this has not been the case in your situation so we will reach out to you via email to assist you. You are also welcome to call us at 1-800-526-0650.

Filter material has been degraded

I wondered why my aquarium water became murky after only 1 week after change. I tried doubling the filter bag and that did the job. Tetra has substituted thinner filtration material and therefore degraded the product to lower their cost. Customers don't expect replacement razor blades to be degraded. The Power Filter replacements are sold the same way. I will make my own filters out of batting material from now on. You've lost a customer.

Filter bag could be of better quality and evenly cut on both sides. Meaning same lenght on each side going right or left. Put excellent price for Biobag filter!
I love that I can leave the carbon out!

I don't like to use carbon in my filters unless I'm removing medication from the tank, and this unassembled filter give me that option! I recently purchased a Whisper EX that only has pre-assembled cartridges with carbon, and I am very unhappy with it for that reason alone. This is a great choice if you want options for your filtration, but it's still super easy to use if you don't. It is also relatively affordable.

Why do they not have small size bio bags? I would like to have larger than 2 pack small filter cartridges.

I grabbed what I thought was a box of 12 regular Bio-Bag filters. The box says in large letters: "Bio-Bag Disposable Filter Cartridges." Nothing about "must be assembled." "Easy to assemble" is in small print further down the box. These are the messiest worst things ever. I'll never buy another box. No matter how careful I am I wind up with "carbon" pellets all over my counter, in my sink, all over the place--either the old ones as I remove the frame from the old bag or as I'm trying to put the new pellets in the new bag. What a horrible idea.

They changed the material and these inserts breakdown far too fast. The old version lasted a lot longer and would keep me a customer. The new version has me looking for another filter. To lose all the good bacteria that is in these inserts is frustrating.
