Book Synopsis
From the New York Times bestselling author Carissa Braodbent, comes The Ashes & the Star-Cursed King, the gutting second installment of the Crowns of Nyaxia series, full of heartbreak, redemption, blood intrigue and heart-pounding action.
Love is a sacrifice at the altar of power. In the wake of the Kejari, everything Oraya once thought to be true has been destroyed. A prisoner in her own kingdom, grieving the only family she ever had, and reeling from a gutting betrayal, she no longer even knows the truth of her own blood. She's left only with one certainty: she cannot trust anyone, least of all Raihn. Raihn's own nobles are none too eager to accept a Turned king, especially one who was once a slave. And the House of Blood digs their claws into the kingdom, threatening to tear it apart from the inside. When Raihn offers Oraya a secret alliance, taking the deal is her only chance at reclaiming her kingdom-and gaining her vengeance against the lover who betrayed her. But to do so, she'll need to harness a devastating ancient power, intertwined with her father's greatest secrets. But with enemies closing in on all sides, nothing is as it seems. As she unravels her past and faces her future, Oraya finds herself forced to choose between the bloody reality of seizing power--and the devastating love that could be her downfall. Carissa Broadbent has been concerning teachers and parents with mercilessly grim tales since she was roughly nine years old. Since then, her stories have gotten (slightly) less depressing and (hopefully a lot?) more readable. Today, she writes novels that blend epic fantasy plots with a heaping dose of romance. She lives with her husband, her son, and one perpetually skeptical cat in Rhode Island.Dimensions (Overall): 8.25 Inches (H) x 5.38 Inches (W) x 1 Inches (D)

Most romantasy books have enemies to lovers plot. This one had an angry, untrustful female lead and the male lead was kind.
Meh.

I loved the first book, and was such a fan of Oraya and Raihn. The second book fell short for me. It was borderline boring and took me forever to finish. I had to keep taking breaks and coming back to it. The plot dragged and then I started to not care about the characters anymore. The only reason I finished it was to gain closure. Hoping the third one that just came out will be better.

Really thin pages. Borderline see through. The text is also really small. Overall the book feels fragile.

I love this series. I’m excited to gift it this Christmas! The hard back is beautiful. It arrived in perfect condition. My only comment for the publisher is the that the font is very small in these books.

I loved the continuation of Oraya and Rhian’s story and the growth of the characters! Looking forward to the third book in the series.
Love the content not the quality

I love the second book in the duet but I can’t stand the quality of the book itself. This book is shorter and a lot smaller than the first, the cover quality isn’t as nice, and the pages feel like I am going to rip them when I turn the page. I absolutely loved the story just cannot stand the book quality.

Haven’t read the book yet but quality is a little off compared to the first book - pages thinner, feels cheap, and ink weird. This is related to the publishing company from what I’ve read elsewhere, not Target. Book arrived in good condition though otherwise! It was even delivered before the expected delivery date. I would order books from Target again!

This is not about the content of the book but the physical book itself. The pages are so thin I feel like they can tear apart every time I turn the page. They are so thin that I can see the words on the next page through it clear enough to make them out. The publisher really messed up with the quality of this book
So good put me in a reading slump
