Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend

Have used this for years and LOVED it. But the new formula is terrible!! It smells like onions and then your face smells like onions and your hands smell like onions from applying it and you cannot escape the smell. If they bring the old formula back I will buy but otherwise I can’t use this anymore

I liked this product since it was so cheap and did help subside any breakouts, however, I didn't see much change. I used this product consisitently and went through it fairly quickly compared to other The Ordinary serums. If you have a few pimples this could be a good option, but if you have a good amount of acnr scars I feel like there is better options out there.

I purchased this to address hyper pigmentation. I use this product faithfully, twice a day, for a couple months. This product made Difference no difference. Also, this smells like garlic.

This is a great product for me, I'm a Fitzpatrick 3 and it really evens out your skin tone. It's suppose to have some of the chemical properties of a hydroquinone but in a safer gentler approach. I've only used it a week and can tell a difference but my skin responds very fast and others may need more time.

Have used the original formula and loved it. Recently got a bottle of the new formula and today it smelled extremely strong of onions. Will not purchase again.

I'm 34 & I have had severe acne for most of my youth and early adulthood. I got it under control using other TO products, but about 5 months ago, my adult acne came back with a vengeance & have not been able to get it under control. I felt like a tren again trying, re-trying products to be disappointed. I have used this once before but more for hyperpigmentation & since my acne has been leaving me with marks, I decided to try this again to help with that at least, even if i couldnt get the acne under control. AND MY GOD, this has calmed my acne down dramatically!!! I have only ised it twice, but the relief of my acne calming down a little has made me have hope. I'm going to continue using this & hope little by little it calms it down, but as of now i am elated & relieved!!! Again, doesn't hurt to try if you have felt a little helpeless, this might help you too.

This use to be my holy grail product - but they've changed the bottle and definitely the formula. It use to not only help with hyperpigmentation but it also plumped up my skin and gave it a glow. Now it does nothing to my skin except make it break out and look dull and dehydrated. So sad, use to be amazing. Just threw away half a bottle.
Not for me.

Unfortunately my skin is very sensitive so my skin became very itchy and developed a small rash near the top of my cheeks. I had to discontinue using it.

I purchased this product to see if it would help with my sun spots. After following the directions and using it for about 6 weeks now, not much has changed. I do see a little improvement but I was expecting more from this bottle.

Lactic acid reaction

I bought this alpha arbutin serum to diminish dark spots. I used it twice a day for a week or two. Then my skin reacted with stinging when even moisturizers were applied. Flaking occured in areas of my face that normally don't flake. I underestimated the effects of lactic acid in this serum. I have tried The Ordinary 10% lactic acid serum and had the same reaction. I mistakenly thought this lactic acid was too far down the ingredient list to cause problems and would benefit the skin lightening effect of alpha arbutin. But who knows because I can't continue using it until my skin barrier gets back to normal. My recommendation is to use this at night with a good moisturizer and don't use twice a day until your skin can handle it.

I love this product! Its the only serum i buy and has worked for me and my acne prone skin. I was told by an Ulta worker that they will discontinue this product and i really wish they didnt…. Please keep it forever!
