Open When is the book clinical psychologist and online sensation Dr. Julie’s readers and clients have long been anticipating. In this essential guide, she teaches how to navigate life’s toughest occurrences while they’re happening, rather than moments or even years after the fact. What if we could learn to harness our emotions and stay present in the moment, processing and choosing how to respond to a situation? The possibilities for improving our lives is breathtaking. Picking up where Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before? leaves off, Dr. Julie shares the research-backed concepts and powerful skills we can use to weather vulnerable moments. Written with the accessible format her fans have come to embrace, Open When guides us through some of the stickiest situations, including: When it’s hard to be with yourself: facing vulnerability alone, dealing with your inner critic, imposter syndrome, what to do when everything feels pointless. When it’s hard to be with other people: dealing with betrayal, what to do when you got it wrong (or your parents), how to let yourself be loved. When it’s hard to be with your feelings: coping with loneliness, fear, and hopelessness When you’re healing from the past: getting out of a trauma response, when you can’t stop thinking about old events, learning how to accept and move on. When you’re looking to the future: how to stop making the same mistakes, tackling uncertainty and finding your path, even when it seems impossible. Open When teaches each of us to find and listen to the positive voice within when we need it most, and to care for our future selves and our mental health.

1️⃣The format is somewhat different but easily adaptable. It aligns more closely to a 378 page, scientific APA style paper. 2️⃣Appendices cover a wide variety of things, including tables, notes, guides, and action plans. In the notes section listed chapter by chapter, are the resources used for this book. 3️⃣Noticeable absence is a chapter entailing "When your child got it wrong." There are many parents that did everything right but their child got it wrong. This idea should have been addressed. 4️⃣There are chapters entitled, "When your parents got it wrong," and "When you got it wrong as a parent." Each chapter has some good takeaway points. The "When you get it wrong as a parent," may be a tough read. 5️⃣Overall, the book is pretty good, but I felt the author could have delved a little more deeply into some topics. Might be fairly useful as directions for a jump-start for change in one's life.
This, get this.
