Unlike its American counterparts, the British-operated Corsairs were adapted for carrier operations with clipped wing tips to fit inside Royal Navy hangars. Sheppard, a Canadian pilot, became the only Fleet Air Arm Corsair ace, scoring five aerial victories against enemy aircraft in the Pacific Theater.
