This seems to be a problem with most electronic rain gauges from La Crosse. They stop working, and not just because the batteries run out. They simply stop communicating with the base station. Right now, my temp gauge is working fine, but my rain station says 'NO,' indicating it's not communicating with the base station. And this doesn't just happen once. There's no indication on the base station that the batteries are low, even though the manual says there will be. So you're waiting for the darned thing to register during a rainfall, but until the rain falls, you don't know if it's working or not. So once the rain starts, you then realize it isn't working, but then it's too late. I would not recommend this product to anyone. It flat out doesn't work, and it doesn't give you a head's up that it's not working. La Crosse used to have quality products. Now, IMHO, they're crap.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Use to monitor rainfall. Sometimes lose contact with the sensor. Temperature and humidity work great.

We have the rain gauge installed on the railing of our redwood bridge to our garage, secured atop a scrap 2x4 that we painted to resist weathering. We picked this spot because the trees are not likely to shade it or create droppings. We keep the readout for rainfall data on our kitchen counter. We believe it is reasonably accurate and love that it detects as little as 0.01 in of rain. In California, we are in a drought and are grateful for every drop! We have had this rain gauge for several years now and it is our most favorite rain gauge that we have ever owned. My husband is obsessed with rain tallies. He loves this product so much that we gave it out as gifts to 12 family members last Christmas.

After several days showing no rain (correctly) it now shows 55.36 inches in a day (no measurable rain fell).
