Description
This dual compartment rectangular sensor can with voice control opens at the sound of your voice. Just say, "open can" and the lid opens automatically, so throwing trash away is quick, efficient and hassle-free. You can also say, “stay open” while performing longer chores or cooking, and the lid won’t close until you say, “close can” (or it will close automatically after 10 minutes). It also has a motion sensor that opens the can with a wave of your hand and is smart enough to adapt to you and the surrounding environment -- no false triggers, no unexpected lid closures. Dual compartments make it easy to neatly sort your trash and recyclables in one convenient, space-efficient place. On one side, it features an innovative 'liner pocket' that stores and dispenses liners from inside the can for a faster liner change. The other side has a convenient handled bucket for easy lifting and disposal of all your recyclables. The liner rim lifts up for easy access to the liner, then closes to grip and keep it neatly out of sight. ADA-compliant.

A: You can use store brand tall kitchen liners, however they will be a little loose. We recommend the simplehuman liners suggested for this model.

Overall, it is a nice trash can but the voice control works only sporadically; often failing to respond to the command "open can" even when the command is said clearly and distinctly. Conversely, the sensor is finicky as well. It occasionally fails to detect lid has opened when it heard the syllable "can" in an unrelated conversation. The motion sensor works fairly well. There have a few times when we have had to repeatedly waive our hand over the sensor. And the lid will open sometimes when a person walks and gets too close or is carrying something. We bought this can to replace the dual compartment Simple Human with a step lever that broke and could not be repaired. We like the dual compartment size and design, but the longevity of our new trash can is still to be determined.

I love Simple Human products! I started with the dual compartment step can but after a piece snapped and prevented the step from working I decided to replace it with this sensor can. I wanted to give it 5 stars for design, aesthetic and performance but it came with a small dent near the sensor and I think it is hindering its performance. It rarely opens with voice command. Sometimes it will “blip” like it wants to open but doesn’t so I end up using the sensor. I do like that it comes with the option to plug it in so that I do not have to keep an endless supply of AA batteries on hand!

I’ve purchased two of these and the first lid worked for about 6 months and the second one stopped working after 2 days. It’s a nice looking trash can and the idea is great but I’d spend your money on the step can lid instead.

I really love this trash can. I already had the dual compartment manual version for years and upgraded to the sensor can and it’s fantastic! The sensor works well and makes it easier to get things into the can without spilling. I changed from stainless steel to matte black because the stainless steel was getting rust rings from cleaning. The matte black shows much less fingerprints and debris.

We finally replaced our simplehuman dual compartment trash can with foot pedal. It wouldn't stay open anymore after six years of heavy use. Plus we usually had greasy fingers when we needed to open it. None of that matters with our new voice-controlled can. Now I feel a little spoiled every time I say "open can" and it opens. We're lovin it.

I love all simple human products and often advocate for their products. However, this is the first time I'm disappointed with the equipment. My trashcan opens on its own throughout the day and now slams shut very loudly. My guests reacts and I'm often seeing them jumping from the noise. Or days when I work from on home and on camera, my colleagues often wonder what's wrong from the loud slam randomly throughout the day as I react to the unexpected sound causing to disrupt my work calls. To top it off, the sensor doesn't work on time and causes me or my guests to wave for a long period of time. Makes it quite awkward when I'm entertaining. Not sure if Simple Human has changed their manufacturing process or if I have a defect but I'm super dissatisfied with this product.

We got this can for our office. It looks great however the can will randomly open and close right away without giving time for us to throw away any garbage. Not sure why this is happening as we’ve only had it a couple weeks now.
