A: The picture ledge is direct mounted to the wall by installing two screws that go into a wall stud to keep shelf securely fastened to wall.

I wanted a simple shelf to accompany some hooks for a large empty wall I have near the family room and kitchen. I didn't intend for this to hold anything heavy. Just maybe a knickknack and a frame of some sort. It's a nice, lacquered black wood that came with dark screws, no marks, pretty solid. My only complaint is that the screws are pretty shallow...only an inch hanging out and the accompanying wall anchors are cheap/weak. Even if putting next to nothing on this shelf, I want it to be safe so, I definitely recommend the more heavy duty dry wall anchors.
