A: Hello Cathy - We really appreciate your interest in this item! The screw loosens with a small screwdriver but does not completely remove. Once loosened, you should be able to use the finger tab to remove the battery compartment cover. Hope this helps. Happy shopping! - Manita

Q: Hello - once the batters are in...there is no room to put the black plastic thing back in? How does that work if not. Looks bad out of the battery chamber.

A: Hello - Thank you for reaching out! This unique Item per the instruction packet provided with this item, the Try Me button assembly should be removed from the battery compartment and disposed of before inserting AA batteries for regular operation. I hope this information was helpful.

A: Hi - This item has an OFF/ON/5 HR TIMER switch on its base. The timer function will turn the candle on at the same time every day and automatically shut off five hours later. These candles are a nightmare. They are cute but not worth the difficulty of getting through the packaging to open them, cuts to your finger from the plastic or the evil tiny screw that will drive you crazy trying to open the battery compartment. The screw will strip no matter how gentle you are. Save yourself a headache.

It would be fine if it didn’t have the tiniest screw that is impossible to get out in order to put the battery in for it to work. I don’t know why this unnecessary feature was added.

A law went into effect that forced us to quickly pivot on the design of the candle to secure the button cell battery in the try me candle from being accessed by those at risk (i.e. children). Why is Target still making/selling these? I bought them twice, thinking it was me before I read the reviews. These are great candles, but you can’t use them. The only reason I know they are pretty when in use is because one I was able to get a partially unscrewed horrible screw out with a pair of pliers. The other was defective and had no screw in the package luckily, so I could open it and actually out batteries inside. The remote and timer is great also. The rest of them are impossible to open and one broke into many pieces while trying to open it, which was even worse than not being able to open the battery compartment straight out of the box. Please stop screwing the battery compartment closed, or change the screw to one that actually fits the opening and can be unscrewed with a normal mini screwdriver but a normal human. If you do, I’ll buy more. Thanks for listening, Target!

I wish I read the reviews before I bought this in the store. The tiny screw that holds the battery cover is defective. The tiny screwdriver I used obliterated the head and I still can’t open it. DO NOT BUY!!

Awful. I bought this to decorate for my daughter who is in boot camp. Decorated it, then realized it’s a terrible design for many reasons and I should have listened to the reviews. The screw does not come out to put in batteries, for starters! I recommend going with a different candle.

I wish I would have read these reviews! The screw is poor quality and impossible to unscrew without completely stripping it. I bought two candle sizes and they both were defective. The only way I could get these to operate was by prying open the casing with a flathead. The bottom will never sit flush but they work I guess.
