Black & Decker LST140C 40V MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless String Trimmer Kit (1.5 Ah)

I bought this combo YEARS ago with a B&D 40v chainsaw, a hedge trimmer and two 40v batteries. Still working after TEN YEARS. For the price I paid for these tools, they have been one of the best bargains ever. This year I bought a generic replacement battery which I do not anticipate will last as long as the B&Ds. But the tools are getting old and if it lasts a few years i will be satisfied. I have purchased many, many B&D products over the years including these products, power tools, hand held vacuums (excellent), etc, etc. Not a bad one in the lot. I have an .8 acre yard with about 300 feet of driveway and sideway edges. These tools are time and lifesavers. Lightweight (I am 76 years old), relatively powerful, easy to use, replace string spool, etc. I should note that my combo included a blower that would also convert into a yard vac.

This trimmer replaced a 20 volt that lasted for more than 10 years. The 40 volt definitely produces more torque and cuts the time to trim our yard almost in half. I love it and am considering getting another for backup🙂.

Wife went to use the trimmer this week, yelled that it smelled bad and was smoking! This after about 15 minutes of work. I came out found the head too hot to touch, and the upper vents were deformed from heat. I removed screws holding the head together, found that the motor got so hot that the mounting framework inside the head was melted and deformed. Also looked inside the vents of the motor itself, can see melted white plastic. The thing is RUINED. I cannot turn the motor by hand. It's melted so bad that the gears of the motor and trimmer head don't even come together anymore -- see picture. This trimmer isn't two years old!! It was manufactured in 2022 (see picture) -- and I bought it for Christmas 2022, so it was used for summer of '23 and has died by end of July 2024! This is the second problem I had with this trimmer -- the first being that the battery would not charge after one season of use. Many people have reported this problem with the battery. B&D sent me a replacement battery (thank you very much, B&D!) But this failure is catastrophic. It cannot be repaired without a total head replacement.

Bought to replace one that's a year old and motor seized. Only bought again as have extra spools and thought I would have extra battery but it quit taking a charge. Hope this one last longer.

I returned the 40 V blower within the same summer and one summer later the 40 v trimmer is now not charging. There is something defective with these batteries.

Bought a weed walker about year ago both batteries charger fully don’t last a half an hour. Not happy at all

I've had this for a year. The battery is very slow to charge and only lasts twenty minutes. That's not the worst part though. The string has started coming out too far, breaking off and hitting me. It breaks the skin and leaves a welt through my work pants! It is so painful and dangerous.

I have a one year old 40 Volt weed Wacker. The battery does not last and Black and Decker will not do anything for me.

Trimmer works fine, but after the first charge the battery went flashing red indicating a problem with the battery. It won't maintain full charge.

Words can barely describe how much I hate this thing. The auto feeder is cool and works well for about a year, then it starts to do this thing where the second it touches grass it feels ALL of your line. Not since of it, all of it. Just strung it, it chewed through about 10 ft of line, strung it again. Did the same thing, so I used it for the only thing it's probably good for. Stress relief. It actually was fun beating it against a wall. Went and bought an eGo, let's see how that does

I just bought an LST140 brand-new at Menard's in June of 2023. This trimmer cuts well and has decent run-time. However, the auxiliary handle slips out of position when you least expect it. You can shake it, twist it and try to force the auxiliary handle to move and it will not. But just operate the tool normally, and when you least expect it, the auxiliary handle will jump to the next position. Adding insult to injury is the fact that tonight I found multiple product reviews complaining about this very problem, some dating back as far as 2019...B&D couldn't/didn't correct this issue in FOUR YEARS?

This is a great trimmer except the handle keeps slipping when in use. Is there a solution for this problem?

very pleased with how quickly it came. i think it will be very good. my grandson cuts my grass and trims for me weekly.

Auto string advances to much string, string pieces are then cut and flying projectiles

I was so excited yesterday when I picked up my new trimmer and used it today! It did everything that it was meant to do wonderfully! Then……I plugged it in to recharge! Either the charger is bad mor the battery! I had my old battery and charger from an older B&D trimmer and my battery was already charge on the old charger. Unfortunately the new charger was still not charged for me to trim the rest of my lawn. I’m really disappointed with that cheap charger!! You guys should go back to the former one! I even put That charger in another receptacle thinking the first one didn’t have enough juice to do it. It was plugged into the first one for 3 hours and it kept blinking green. When I used the other receptacle, it started blinking green and then it had a red light on. I can’t recommend the product when unit has a cheaply charger that doesn’t work! Otherwise I love the product! Disappointedly, Double Decker

First of all I was impressed it arrived less than 24 hours after my order. I really did need it quick too because I fired my gardener months ago and couldn’t decide on which trimmer and edger I should buy. I thought I wanted the EGO combo with the switch out heads but saw this for 1/4 of the price and the reviews were great. I have to say I agree. This tool is awesome. I watched a YouTube video on how to use it because I’ve never trimmed or edged before. After that it was easy. Plenty of power. I used it for an hour non stop and still had plenty of battery left. Overall great tool, would recommend.

I can't even use it anymore because the string doesn't stay on the spool.

Great little weed-wacker! Had to order an additional battery & charger because I have 1 acre but this does the trick

This trimmer goes through sting quick its always feeding out went through a spoil after using twice So i went back to my old 20 volt which you can control when to feed string and last 6 to 7 times of use.

I used it once; broke after 45 minutes of use. The previous model lasted several years.
