Q: What size pot should this be planted in?

submitted by Bagwags - 1 month ago
  • A: Hi there! We typically don't recommend transplanting, as our planters are really meant to be the first and only container for the plant. We cannot guarantee success for getting the plants out of the jar and transplanting elsewhere. However, if you really want to transplant your lavender out of the mason jar, you'll want to loosen the soil around the edges of the jar (ideally roots haven't started circling around the jar yet). Be cautious in trimming down / fitting the root ball out of the narrower jar opening. From this point you should follow typical transplanting guides for wherever you plan to place the plant - whether it's in a larger container or in the ground. For pot size, for seedlings, start with a pot that's slightly larger than the root ball, ensuring good drainage with a pot that's at least 2 inches larger than the current container and 1/3 the height of the lavender plant when it's in bloom. Please reach out to contact@backtotheroots.com with questions or concerns.

Q: Is this eatable? Can be used for baking?

submitted by GG - 11 months ago
  • A: Hi GG! Our English lavender is edible and can be used for baking. We have recipes on our website if you're interested!

Q: Can the plant be transplanted outdoors once grown? I imagine the glass would need to be shattered to do so. What would be the best way to "break" the jar?

submitted by Mama2two - 3 years ago
  • A: I wouldn't recommend breaking the jar, but here are some steps to take when transplanting lavender into your jar: - Remove the seedling from the plastic container - If necessary, gently shake/pick off the excess dirt so the seedling fits in your jar - Displace the soil within the jar to create a divet for the seedling to sit in - Carefully place the roots into the jar and cover with the dirt below the seedling.

Q: Could you use the seeds for something else

submitted by Bella - 4 years ago
  • A: Hi Bella! Yes, you can definitely plant the Lavender Seeds in-ground or in another planter. If you are going to plant in another option we do recommend that you utilize the nutrient-rich organic soil that comes in the jar. Happy Gardening :)

Hi Sandy! Thank you so much for your feedback on our Organic Lavender Grow Kit! Lavender can definitely be a bit tricky to grow from seed, so you're not alone. To help us support you better, could you please send a photo of your soil and any details about your growing setup to contact@backtotheroots.com? We'd love to take a look and share some tips and tricks—and we're happy to send replacement seeds if needed to get you growing successfully! Looking forward to helping your lavender thrive.

Things were off to a really great start with this kit. I started to see little sprouts not too long after planting the seeds & watered as directed. Worried I was under watering the plant, I checked on it tonight (two weeks unopened) to find it completely waterlogged and moldy! I’m so disappointed because things were looking great & I was so excited for my first harvest! I’d say try it but be very careful, as lavender is naturally very finicky to grow from seeds. I’d be open to trying again.

Jar was broken after shipping. I saved the rest and used my own planter. I would consider going to the store if you want to buy it & double check that the jar is intact.

It even promises that it will grow no matter what, even if you don’t have a green thumb. I want to love this, my daughter was so excited. We will continue to watch it.

Followed directions. Sprouted relatively quickly - a single stalk like weed that was about 18in tall, zero flowers, looks nothing like what lavender looks like. Extremely disappointed.
1 reply from Back to the Roots, Inc. team - 2 years ago
Hi there! Lavender needs 6-8 hours of sunlight per day, or an equivalent amount of time under a full spectrum grow light for the best possible results. Lavender normally likes to flower between spring and early fall. If you don’t want to wait for flowers, though, the leaves can be used for nearly all the same things! We understand the frustration, and we are here to support your gardening journey. Please feel free to reach out to contact@backtotheroots.com. We are here to help!
