unfortunately, we didn't have much success with these models in my Animal Behavior class where we used them as a predator model presentation for recording reactions of grey squirrels. The squirrels' behavior did not change much. We'll try some different variations of the experiment next year to see if it will change things.

I've placed my Hawk Decoy in several locations in my backyard. I move it about every 4th day. I've placed it at ground level, and as high as atop a 13ft pole. I have seen no effect on the number of birds in the backyard. The description does say that optimal placement should take place before the birds have arrived, and my birds were already there so not sure if this impacts the potential deterrent effect. For now, I will keep it out back and continue to move it around.

Hi John, visual deterrents as you've stated are great for preventative action but have their limitations. If you are experiencing medium to heavy bird pressure with nesting birds, commercial bird deterrents and exclusionary methods will be necessary to fully control the problem. Products such as Bird Spikes are very effective for ledges seagulls are seen perching, while bird control netting is recommended for areas birds are seen nesting. Our experts are happy to help consult best practices and effective measures. Please give our team a call at 1-800-392-6915 for assistance. We look forward to helping!

The Hawk decoy is a quality item. Unfortunately, I think farm birds aren't too afraid of it. I move it every day if necessary. I'm also adding the reflective eye around my barn. Results to be determined.

1 reply from birdbgone team - 2 years ago
Hello Rick, thank you for reaching out to us here for support. We are sorry to hear the woodpeckers have come back. Woodpeckers are a highly protected bird species and a difficult bird to humanely deter. If you have not tried already, we always recommend frequently moving visual deterrents, such as the Hawk Decoy. Leaving visual deterrents sitting in one location for an extended period will allow the birds in the area to become accustomed to the deterrent. If you continue to experience this issue, please reach out to our bird control experts for support at 1-800-392-6915. We look forward to helping!

The birds sure enough stayed away, once I put my Red-tailed hawk up. I pulled the plug out of the bottom and put it over a T-post. The wind helps with moving it but not blowing it down...

I had a bird problem with birds sitting on my front porch soaking up the sunlight in morning since my house faces the east. That was not so bad, but the bird droppings all over the porch was disgusting and embarrassing ! The hawk decoy so far has done the trick! No more birds on the porch.

It worked where other devices I've tried have failed! As soon as I put it outside, the finches stopped trying to nest in my hous's awnings. I have not mounted it to a pole. I leave it on a wall or on a higher point on my patio, but move it daily. Even when I do not put it outside for a couple of days there are no birds trying to nest in my hous's awnings. The one drawback is that the local crows occasionally try to harass it to scare it off. They tend to be noisy for a while.

Hi Gerald, we're glad to hear the hawk decoy has helped! To keep the birds guessing, we recommend moving the hawk periodically. This will help prevent the birds from coming back around.

We are very happy with the Hawk Decoy and it has really taken care of the problems of sparrows landing on the covered front porch and also on the back covered porch just like the ad showed with all the pictures. We appreciate you. Keep up the GREAT WORK!!!
