Description
Why is Bob's Red Mill Cornmeal the best? Unlike most manufacturers of cornmeal and corn flour, we leave the germ and bran in! That makes our 100% Stone Ground Medium Grind Cornmeal tastier and more nutritious, with a good amount of dietary fiber and lots of naturally delicious corn flavor. Medium Grind Cornmeal makes the best cornbread possIble; it gives a great texture without an overabundance of crumbs. Great for corn muffins, too! Try it in cornmeal pancakes and waffles, or use it to dust the pan when baking bread or pizza crust.

Please, yall, don't mess up this cornmeal with sugar

This makes STUPENDOUS cornbread. Just about like what I find (if I am lucky), out in rural Appalachia. ground by an ancient steam-powered machine at some kind of festival. If people don't like its coarse, gritty texture, then they should buy that powdery stuff at the grocery store. I'm so glad to find this cornmeal! And, please yall, don't use sugar with this product--it makes a perfect pone without it!

I used the recipe on the bag and it makes the best cornbread we have ever eaten. It was moist and fluffy and delicious. I noticed some of the reviews said it was gritty, but we didn't have that problem. Don't know if they pre-soaked in the buttermilk as the recipe says, but it was simply amazing. I've tried lots of cornbread recipes but this is the absolute best!! I did use the buttermilk powder that you mix with water, so I don't know if this helped with it being so moist?

I love your cornmeal to make cornbread, but my husband thinks it's too gritty. You used to have a fine grind version, but I haven't been able to find it for a couple of years. Now I put it in the food processor and grind it for a while. This helps some, but it's still grittier than my husband would prefer. I'll keep using it, but I sure wish I could get my hands on some fine grind!
Bitter

I made polenta from the cornmeal and it turned out bitter. I will have to throw away everything. Some people say that could be because of the old cornmeal. After opening, the pack was sitting on the shelf for about two months. I guess it was enough for the grains to go rancid

Actually use for our newhatch CHICKS & POULTS&PHEASANTS...harder to find the old local Milled Corn for Poultry/Fowl & other Livestock. The Miller has shut down his farm's products and other Brands made elsewhere don't have a small enough ground corn for filling in our homemade Start & Grow for new babies...I add crushed Dried Mealworms or Black Soldier Fly larva for 50% Protein & Vitamin/Enzyme/Mineral powders appropriate for Poultry young & crushed Sunflower Seed, Millet, Amaranth, Buckwheat...all good stuff for babies to grow on & cutup greens from our farm driveway's growths! I also use this grade of Ground Corn for our Pancake paleo mix & sometimes Cornbread for Chili about once monthly if we're lucky! Cooking fromScratch is not easy now in our 70's & my crippling arthritic/spinal degeneration, but its' SO WORTH IT when we finally get done...just takes 3x longer than it used to! I so ENJOYED ALL YOU OTHER SWANSON SHOPPERS' REVIEWS; sharing your home recipes & your family cooking habits! Like a visit, almost! Hope u all have young ones to teach these VITAL HOMECOOKING & dietary health practices to! We had just one; she's now Deployed but when home is a SNAP Baker & Cook, true Health Fan who only cooks, eats whats good for us! I raised her on Swanson vitamins cuz she was the most important thing I ever did, having her age 40 nearly killed me! Can't believe I'm here 32 yrs later to stil talk about it! You all stay good!

I used to buy another brand which starts with the letter "Q". They sold out and the new company produces only a powder like grind! I refuse to buy that any longer. I used your medium grind twice now for the best cornbread I've ever had! Your recipe on the bag worked perfectly!

Best cornmeal there is! It reminds me of the cornmeal we had as a child when my parents got it from the man who ground our corn at the water mill. It is hard to find medium grind, but Bob’s Red Mill gives you the choice of fine, medium, and coarse grind. It’s fresh, clean, and makes great cornbread!. I also love their cereals.

This made wonderful corn bread. I like the medium grind because it is less gritty. The flavor and freshness was great.
