Q: What screen does this device have? I believe the 2023 model uses carta1200 while the 2024 model uses carta1300. Thank you!

Super slow, but it gets the job done! Was able to download Kindle and my local library apps so I can read all sorts of stuff and am not restricted to one app!

To be fair this is only my second e-reader. My first one was Kindle that I bought a good while ago so it's an older generation device, but it still works. This Boox Poke 5 is smaller than my old Kindle but still serves the purpose I needed it for. And, while it is smaller overall, the bezels are larger on my old Kindle so there's no real compromize on screen realestate. My main reason for deciding to go with this over another Kindle was the Android functionality. I needed a simple notepad to type on and while I was able to side-load an app on the Kindle to do that, the experience wasn't great. Also the kindle had a rubberized coating that was starting to feel tacky. A few issues that I have this the Poke 5 is that the entire unit is a slick plastic which makes it difficult to hold on to. It also is a fingerprint magnet and, unlike my Kindle, this shows fingerprint smudges on the e-ink screen too. I ended up buying a roll of textured vinyl and covering the back of the unit with that just to give it more texture and make it easier to grip. Getting the Google Playstore working requires jumping through a few hoops, but it doesn't take very long. I was able to find a simple notepad app that runs perfectly on the device, and as a bonus, the app includes cloud based syncronization across the user account, so I can easily access the notes on other android devices. I haven't used this for long book reading sessions yet, but that's not really why I bought it anyway. My only other gripe would be the price, especially when compared to newer Kindles. But it is nice to have the flexibility of running android apps on it. It's also nice that it has expandable storage. Another nice feature is that my Kindle didn't have was being able to adjust the screen time-out period. The sleep and powered off images can also be customized in the settings.
