About this item

Highlights

  • EASIER SEED STARTING: Our Burpee SuperSeed™ tray with 16 extra-large flexible pop-out cells is designed to simplify indoor seed starting. Just add seed starting mix, seeds, water and light to get growing! Rows are labeled alphanumerically for seedling identification with included Plant-o-Gram diagram.
  • SMARTER WATERING SYSTEM: Molded corner slots in each cell improve drainage and soil aeration to set your seeds up for germination success. Deep channels in the watering tray draw excess away from the cells, while the raised perimeter edge keeps water contained in the tray - no spills! Seed tray side handles make it easy to lift and pour off excess water or check seedlings daily.
  • SIMPLER TRANSPLANTING: Soft food-grade silicone cells cradle seedlings and gently flex to pop out when it’s time to transplant into your outdoor garden! This system is specially designed to reduce stress on your seedlings, so you don't damage their roots.
  • SEED STARTER TIP: Many favorite vegetables, including peppers and tomatoes, must be started indoors before warmer weather arrives. Check your Burpee seed packets for instructions on when and how to plant any of your vegetable, herb and flower varieties.
  • 100% GUARANTEED: Burpee is committed to the success of all gardeners. We treat each order with care to ensure healthy seeds, plants and gardening supplies are sent in excellent condition.

Must be made of cheap plastic because by end of 2nd year plastic bottoms broke open. The sides and bottom come apart after 2 years. Good idea, but substandard product.

Great Idea, Not Durable

I purchased this16 cell tray and the 36 cell tray in January of 2022, making this year (2024) my third season using them. The silicone bottoms tore off this year when I went to transplant my seedlings. I had hoped that they would last longer than less expensive trays, but they have not. When not in use, the trays were stored in a cupboard away from the heat and sunlight.

Leeching Chemicals, Can’t Grow Anything

I have been trying to grow my seedlings in this since March 14th. I have had to retry several times and I tried many different conditions to see if it was my placement or watering. It was not. Each time I noticed a chemical smell to the soil. Turns out, the plastic was breaking down in the sunlight at a rapid rate. I did not have it in direct sun either. I had some in a plastic tray by a different company that did not have the chemical smell and the seeds have grown very well. I would not recommend this product and hope this does not happen to anyone else.

Poor product. Must be something other than silicone.

This is CERTAINLY NOT reusable in the long term. I do not believe that flexible silicone would dry out and turn brittle... but the Burpee "silicone" product did just that. I bought several of these expensive seed starter trays thinking that they would be the last I would have to purchase. I was wrong. Poor purchase on my part.

Worries about long term use of these trays

I bought three of these trays in the past three years and have been very happy with them until this year. I set up one tray with nine varieties of tomato plant and three each of eggplant and pepper. Although the plants grew well for four weeks, after that they just stopped growing. The new leaves did not appear and old cotyledons started falling off. I had used new seed starting soil and did everything as I had done in the past two years. I can only think worry that something is leeching out from the plastic and/or rubber. I transferred all the plants to a cold frame and am hoping this will help them recover. I wash them each year with soap and water and store them dry. I am writing this review a a warning for those planning to us the same product year after year

Excellent product BUT…..

Excellent product, I have 3 of them currently in use BUT I really wish they sold them with a clear hard cap so we could increase humidity if we wanted. Or at least sold it separately that we could buy one that would attach to the hard tray. I feel like it’s a huge missed opportunity there. Burpee has cheaper plastic versions that come with greenhouse lids idk why they didnt think to make a kit of these hard plastic ones with a clear top.

The concept is great but the materials are cheap plastic which break under minimum handling. Won’t last more than one or two seasons. Please use better and stronger tools plastic for the cups.

I love these trays!

I purchased one of these trays a couple years ago, got two more recently and have just ordered another! These are durable, and my seedlings grow well in them. The seedlings are easy to pop out at planting time, and I love that the trays are washable and reusable. As others have said, a dome would be a great addition to this product, but it doesn't take away from the general quality of the item.

Love the tray, been using it for a few seasons now, but super bummed it doesn't come with a cover for germination. Had to buy another lesser-quality kit, throw away everything but the lid. Help me out here!

The only upgrade I would suggest is to add a humidity dome to these. Make it as rugged as these reusable trays and it would be even better. That said I have chosen to use these anyway and have decided to use a humidifier instead so I can control the humidity in the entire area. It is not hard to do but would be less effort if there was a dome.

I purchased these trays last year and enjoyed the features. The trays hold water to keep the cells damp. The seedlings come up healthy and strong. Because of the silicon bottoms the plants are easy to remove with very little damage. The only flaw is that the plastic deteriorates and readily breaks. Bottom line I have tried many seed starting trays and this one works the best. I just am resigned to the fact the plastic will not last more than a year or two and I am now replacing them.

great for greenhouse

These are some of my favorite seed starting trays to use in my greenhouse, where a dome isn't needed. The bright colors add a fun and happy esthetic to my greenhouse shelves. It helps that they are also reusable, if you don't mind having to clean them out. This is my third year to use these trays. I bought more last year and now have several trays of each size/color.

Needs clear cover to improve germination

Would love these if had a lid. Used them for 2 seasons now. They are easy to fill and pop out the plants when they are ready to go HOWEVER they dry out quickly and since there is no lid to keep the humidity in, it is hard to germinate seeds in it. Please add a dome for these like you do on the other ones!

I am using these for the first time. They seem very sturdy but I don't understand why there's no humidity dome. I had to improvise with a food container.

I have three of the 16 and one of the 8. Honestly thought they were going to last a long time so I forked the money over for these. It’s been 7 months and the plastic has broken on all three of the 16 cell one (I don’t use the 8 cell much) and bummed they will have to end up in landfill vs lasting for years. It was great in theory but overall not satisfied.
