Q: What kind of espresso beans work for this? Or can you use coffee beans? What grind?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The machine works amazingly and has really good and self-explanatory buttons it’s not as complicated if you read the manual. This sleek stainless steel design is appealing and even I have gotten compliments. I use it from my local pop-up coffee shop and it works wonders. Great machine can handle the heat when it comes to making a lot of espresso

I love it! It’s been easy to learn on and makes a great cappuccino. My only (slight) issues have been the milk burning onto the steamer wand no matter how quickly I wipe it off, and the portafilter is tricky to lock in. I specifically bought this one because it comes with everything you need which is a huge plus.
Great machine for the money!

Yes, what you pay for this machine absolutely matters, because its innate capabilities far exceed what you could pay for a good quality expresso machine and this is a good quality machine. Previous to this, I have owned automated machines from well known brands like Gaggia and Saeco (which are both owned by Philips, which also has its own line of expresso machines), which work fine until they break down after a few years of use and require large deposits just to have them reviewed by repair shops. This time around, I opted for a simpler setup (that also brews Americano) and searched for a budget friendly, semi-automatic expresso machine, partnered with a good, but separate conical burr coffee grinder. The Casabrews 4700Gense far exceeds expectations. in terms of both quality brewing and stylishness. It is compact, powerful, very easy to use and brews great coffee (both Americano and shots). Frothing takes some getting used to, but mostly this is due to its power. Good coffee beans (organic or otherwise), along with a good conical burr grinder will make a huge difference in terms of both quality of taste and crema, when using this machine. A flat burr grinder will produce a more irregular grind and worse tasting results, regardless of the beans you use. Last, a fresh grind (upon demand) definitively matters, so keep this in mind when using pre-grounded coffee beans.. The only question that remains is durability and I will let you know in a few years...hopefully. Beyond that and if you enjoy great coffee, then you will be very happy with the Casabrews 4700Gense.

This is potentially a great machine. We like the size, the steamer, and the coffee brewing. The weakness we found was the computer settings/buttons, which didn't work consistently. We also wish it had a 3 cup filter; 2 is not quite enough, and the customizable longer setting on the 2 cup filter is a good idea but can make the coffee too weak. Also, trying to find the max fill line on the filter is a bit of a challenge; an indent line/other mark all around the filter would be a big help.

Dear customer, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your thoughtful feedback on our espresso machine. We truly appreciate your insights, as they help us identify areas where we can improve and better meet the needs of our customers. We are delighted to hear that you enjoy the size of the machine, as well as the steaming and coffee brewing features. However, we regret to hear about the difficulties you experienced with the computer settings and buttons, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Rest assured, we will pass this feedback along to our product development team for further review and improvement. Regarding your comments about the filter options, we understand your desire for a 3-cup filter. While the current design accommodates 1 and 2-cup servings, your suggestion for a larger capacity filter and clearer marking for the maximum fill line is noted. These are excellent ideas, and we will certainly take them into consideration as we look for ways to enhance the user experience in future versions of the machine. If you have any further feedback or if there's anything else we can assist you with, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are always here to help, and we value your continued support as a Casabrews customer. Thank you once again for your valuable suggestions, and we look forward to providing you with even better experiences in the future. Warm regards, Mark

The machine is nice and compact but like other people stated no crema. I’ve kept the machine because I didn’t want to deal with returning or exchanging hassle but I wanted to be impressed and am not. I bought the Casabrew bottomless portafilter and the grinder but still nothing great about the brew
Still dialing in

I had a Starbucks Barista and a flat burr grinder for 14 years. I thought it made a good enough cup and I could get some decent foam but it finally died. I looked at purchasing something similar and settled on the 4700Gense. I was truly surprised at how easy it was to get amazing micro foam every.single. time. I think I actually squealed on my first go. But, since I didn't have to tamp with my old machine, I had a bit to learn. I too wasn't getting crema with my draws so I started to experiment with different beans but still no crema. I gave beans I ground to a new coworker and she said it was a weak draw with no crema in her espresso machine. Next, I tried beans she ground and I had a bit of crema. I think I didn't tamp right and may not have had enough in the portafilter. Thus I went on a hunt for a new grinder and had crema on the first draw. Going to have to invest in a screen as my puck stuck to the machine on the first 2 draws using different beans each time. Then I tried an Americano with a third bean. I rarely added syrups to my drinks because I loved the taste of my beans but after using a better/newer grinder and this machine, I see that my old machine was making weak draws. What a difference! After reading some concerns people have on this machine, I observed a few things. Tamper & mat : These are a bonus to the purchase! The metal tamper works well- the mat is a big help, too. Wand issues: I have none. I purchased a micro cloth to clean my wand. LOVE how well the wand cleans and LOVE that I can release the pressure with a simple touch and walk away. Water leakage: I was pulling the water bin to fill but now I leave it in and add water. I put the machine on a glider so I can pull it out from under my cabinet and use it. Portafilter: too hard to turn- I only noticed this when I overfilled the portafilter because I was distracted and didn't look before placing on the machine. Pretty easy if you fill and tamp to the line only and I have a frozen shoulder so I can't put pressure on it. periodically I have a puck stick to the machine so I will be investing in a screen. But I'm still perfecting my tamping skills and dialing in my grind to get a bit more crema. All in all I am really happy with my purchase. Would I recommend? In a heartbeat. If this machine lasts 10 years I'll be over the moon. I included shots of my first 3 draws with my new grinder to show crema for the nay sayers. Papua New Guinea from a local roaster, Guatemala Antiqua from a large coffee company, and an espresso roast from a chain coffee shop.

If you have the right tools (burr grinder, wdt and tamper) this is an impressive home espresso machine! Even using it with a blade grinder it produced a decent cup. The steam wand took a little getting used to, but with some practice you can get a nice microfoam. Overall super happy with my purchase and have been drinking way too much espresso!
