Q: hello, can I reuse it if I do not finish the product, if so, how many days is the gel good for once open, or is it one time use?

A: Hey Claudia, Great question! The Clairol Semi Permanent Root Tough-up color is a one time use. We do not recommend to save the product once you open it. Leave it on for 50-60 minutes if you’re covering grays. I have dark brown hair, but bought the black shade bc the dark brown color was out of stock at my store. The first time I used it, I followed the directions and saw zero difference in my hair. It did absolutely nothing. After reading some reviews, I decided to try again and left it on for an hour. It worked great!! I have highlights and the precise applicator lets you apply it strictly to the roots so you don’t have to color over the rest of your hair. And it’s semi permanent so it fades naturally and I don’t get fussed at by my hair stylist when I go to get my hair dyed/highlighted at the salon every few months.

I love this product! So much better than sprays or powders. Clairol, I think your directions are all wrong. I apply to dirty hair, blow dry with a warm dryer for a few minutes and leave on for as long as possible. 20 minutes and wash and condition as usual. I get great results. Other products give to much product that gets wasted. I appreciate that there are many uses to a small tube. Really hope it is not discontinued. My hairdresser said he couldn't give me a better colouring.

Pros: easy application, multiple use - just need new gloves for each subsequent application Cons: doesn’t work - I left it on for 20 minutes as instructed, then rinsed. Little to no gray coverage at all

I bought this product a few days ago for the first time and used it this morning. I’m going out tonight and will wear the front of my hair pinned back so thought this would be perfect around the hairline. What a joke, followed the instructions exactly and rinsed but all the product rinsed out. No cover whatsoever. I don’t have time to go back to the shop to buy my usual colour. Never wasting money on this again.

I have used this a couple of times to hide my grays in between colours and it blends my hair enough to get me through until next colour. I have natural dark brown hair coloured medium brown with about 30% grey. If you have predominantly grey hair go for something stronger. If you slightly grey or just getting a few here and there this products perfect for you.

I like Clairol products so I thought I’d give this a try. I used it around my temples and hairline. I followed all directions and left it on for 18 minutes. It did absolutely nothing to cover any gray! Very disappointed!

It works well if instructions are followed, I don’t know why so many people are saying it doesn’t. I have very white roots and I applied it on shampooed and towel dried hair, left for 15 min (a bit longer than advised) and rinsed it out. It makes a bit of a mess in the tub/sink/towel but it works, my white hair is now brown. What I didn’t love about it was that it made my scalp darker too so I had to do way more rubbing than I had anticipated (I used a conditioned to rub my scalp) but I guess most semi permanent dyes will do that otherwise it wouldn’t stay on the hair either. I’ll try to avoid my scalp as much as I can next time I use it. This isn’t to replace permanent dye but is a great quick fix if you don’t have much time or to stretch out time between coloring.

Was excited to find Color product that you can use up to 3 applications. Followed instructions as to how to get the best results. This product did not cover any of the grey; I went through the whole process with no results. Not pleased so will not be spending my money on this product. Disappointed. I really feel there is a good market for this type of product.

Had high hopes because I use Clairol’s other root touch-up products; however, this one didn’t work AT ALL and worse yet, left my hair smelling like sulfur! I can’t wash out the smell! So embarrassing!

Zero gray coverage. I tried this twice. First time I followed the directions and left on for the allotted time. No cuverage of grays. The second time, I left it on for 45-60 minutes. Still no coverage of gray.

I bought this believing it would save me time and cover my grey regrowth, but all it does is wash out after first wash. I don’t even know this product is in the market, it’s a pain to use. You supposedly can’t shampoo for three days and you can only rinse out after application - so what do you do, shampoo, dry, apply the rinse, then don’t shampoo for days?? It is extremely impracticable and expensive. It is useless. Don’t waste your time. You’re better off buying the permanent hair dye and alternating between regrowth and full head. At least that works. Very disappointing and a waste of money.

While the Root Touch Up Gel is a Semi-Permanent product, it is best for blending 30-50% grey hair If you have followed these steps, but are looking for 100% gray coverage, you could try switching to the Root Touchup Permanent Crème, but remember to follow the instructions on the strand and 48-hour allergy tests. Nonetheless, we value your feedback and will be sure to share your comments with our team.

What a great product! Due to a medical issue I was unable to get my roots done professionally with permanent dye. I used this as an interim treatment and it’s been amazing. I have brown hair with streaks and used the light brown colour. Very gentle on my scalp

This product is absolute rubbish. Doesn't do a thing, even if you follow instructions perfectly. The company doesn't care at all either. I contacted them and got no reply. Apparently they're perfectly happy to sell defective products.
