Poor packaging design

The concept is great. However, the foam tip rips easily. It ripped off completely within a month. Underneath is hard plastic and you have to press hard to get the product to come out. Which hurts since pimples are pretty sensutive. I tried taking the tip off completely but you can't. Do not recommend. Waste of money. Can't even tell you if the actual product inside works because it doesnt come out well.

Within the first few uses of this, I had to press so hard every time to get any liquid to come out that the tip totally fell apart.

This HURTS to apply! You have to press HARD to get the product to come out. Who wants to press that hard on sore acne?? It's not a roll on, there's a foam tip that's always dry and to wet it with product you have to press down. This is awful. Did not expect this bad of a product from Clinique.
Sponge Tip Came Off!

It's very difficult to get this product to come out! It's activated when you push but found it difficult for any liquid to come out. One day while attempting to use it, the sponge applicator tip just came right off! I've had it less than 2 weeks when this happened so I wasn't happy! I had to use plyers to completely remove the applicator cap. So now it's like a pour bottle. It's the only way that I could access the product.

Not worth the price. Really hard to get the solution out. The foam applicator came off and now it makes the product useless. I recommend getting a serum that you can pump into your hand. This one is just a bad idea and i didnt like how unsanitary it is to keep reusing the applicator.

Product might be great, but applicator does not work. It never seems like any product is applied.

The formula works, but you have to press too hard to get it to come out. I've torn the applicator from pressing so hard and another side is flopping over. I'll have to lose a lot of product and use a cotton ball soon enough.
Great product, terrible applicator

Love the product (when I can get it out of the tube). I've actually had this for awhile but haven't had a chance to write this review until now. As other reviewers have said, the design of the applicator is terrible. Very hard plastic covered with a flimsy foam; you have to press it really hard to get any product to come out, usually several times. So hard that it's actually painful to press it on your face, so then you press it on your hand or other hard surface and a ton of liquid pours out and gets wasted. Over time, all of this hard pressing causes the hard plastic to tear through the flimsy foam, then you're left with having to press the applicator directly using your hand, which was working for awhile, but now I can't get any product at all to come out, and I can tell it's still more than half full, which means half the money I spent on this was wasted. Clinique: I've read your responses to the other reviews that "something doesn't sound right", and you're correct—what's not right is the design of this applicator and the clear lack of testing it underwent before bringing it to market. Your stuff is not cheap, so those of us who buy it are loyal customers, and we deserve better than a response of "something's not right, please call this general 800 number and re-explain everything you put in your review to someone who has no idea you wrote a review". We don't want tips on how to use the applicator or help with a return, we want a working product. You have enough reviews here to understand the problem without us having to take even more time to call or chat with someone to explain what a terrible design this applicator is. Your designers need to go back to the drawing board and come up with an applicator that works and stays working until the last drop of product is used. Shame on you, Clinique—for this poorly designed product AND your generic responses.

The actual treatment liquid is great on pimples. But the tip of the pen is difficult to use/get saturated unless you "abuse" it. Now that I have smashed it too many times, the tip has ripped off and I can't use it at all, even though the pen is almost still full. Please try different packaging/application, Clinique!

I thought I would love this, but as it turns out, nothing comes out of the applicator at all and I was very disappointed, as the product is unusable. I usually love Clinique, but this was wasted money.

You have to push this hard to get the product to come to the surface. I can feel it when it is being put on and it kind of burns. I prefer the gel where you can put a good layer on. Plus, if you use the pen after moisturizer, it fills with moisturizer.

Clinique's latest solution for blemishes is "spot-on!" With a penetrating punch of powerful pimple treatment, this purely portable package provides both a real-time cure and an ounce of prevention for future breakouts all in one convenient little stick so one is never caught off-guard when a sudden skin emergency erupts.
Poorly Designed

Very disappointed with the application. It is almost impossible to gently dab the liquid onto your skin as the sponge always stays dry. It requires a great deal of effort dabbing the application. I would not recommend this product to anyone
Great idea, poor design--sponge tip dry as a desert!

I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with this product. From the day that I received it, the sponge tip applicator has been, and continues to be, as dry as a desert! And, because the stick, itself, is made of hard plastic, it is not possible to "squeeze" it in order to make the liquid flow to the tip. I discovered that the only way to do that is to 'smash' the sponge tip applicator (using ALL of my strength!) on a piece of tissue (or a wash cloth); and even with doing that, a bare minimum of liquid flows to the sponge, and even that dries-up very quickly. Therefore, I have not been able to use enough of it to even determine whether or not it is a good product; so, at this point, I cannot recommend it, and I would like to receive a full refund. (Go back to the drawing board on this one, Clinique; in my opinion, it needs to be re-designed!). :-(
Unhappy with the tip/bottle

Packaging was handy and discreet so I was excited when this came out. The only instruction was "Gently dab on oily spots…." I actually thought it was a squeeze bottle. Sadly, I need to press the tip for the product to come out. It wasn't convenient at all! I was disappointed about the tip and expected the application would be easy. The sponge did not help either. Pressing the tip every single time was unhygienic too. I was hoping to carry this with me in my handbag daily. You might want to rethink the EMERGENCY word on the bottle and IMPROVE or CHANGE the tip or bottle…The sample size acne gel is easier to use I tell you.

With lot of hopes with the product name itself I brought it. Also the ingredients the product has is great. But the sponge seems to be drying quickly. I feel it's dry most of the time and need to press with hand every time. I had tinted sunscreen and dabbed on the same and it has stain on it now. Also I am curious people with oily or combination skins are easily prone to bacterial growth. And this sponge applicator can't be removed nor washed. I am really concerned.
