This machine has been a fun & reliable addition to our daily life & family gatherings for the past year. I bought this for my husband (who is hard to impress re: gift-giving) and he was thrilled with it. He & our teenage son each use it at least 5-6x per week. It has been going strong since last Xmas. Just open the lid on top & add a handful of ice cubes to start. With a simple turn of the knob you can choose your ice style, from fine shaved ice to more course, and anything in between. Refreshing shaved ice turns ordinary drinks into special concoctions & even provides snow cone fun. (Buy your favorite syrups & make the magic happen!) It adds zing to special occassions & is the life of the party. (Full disclosure: I purchased ours through an online retailer that starts with a capital 'A' but in appearance it is exactly the same appliance as the one shown here at Target. Just under a different brand name.) Three minor complaints: #1.) It's a bit tall & bulky (though not heavy) & a few parts are made of thin plastic; my first photo shows it fills one whole corner of our counter space, close to which we have under-cabinet lighting. One day one of these lights was on for a few minutes while the machine was in it's original location; the heat from the light started to melt the thin plastic on top (a door-type lid that's hinged to the top, where the ice gets poured in). Thankfully the smell of overheating plastic caught our attention before irreversible damage occurred. Be careful placing this near under-cabinet lighting in a confined space! #2.) A side-loaded design would work better for adding the ice. If there's not enough clearance above the top where the ice goes in, because of cabinets above, the machine will need to be pulled out in order to open the lid & toss in the handful of ice cubes. #3.) Due to a typo on the decorative label adorning the front of this machine, we're reminded to enjoy the "soomer"... maybe by now a proofreading step has been added to the manufacturing process lol. But the awesomeness of the shaved ice wins out over any spelling errors! For us, it's a real gem.
