Q: Is there a way to fit your hand into this to clean it?

submitted by Jillann - 7 years ago
  • A: No. This humidifier even though very good is very difficult to clean. As another user has stated, you might be able to clean it with vinegar but it might get unusable eventually.

submitted byNick - 7 years ago
  • A: No. I have used vinegar and crushed ice and shaken it and that has seemed to mostly clean the inside. Then I try to get anything leftover by using a long bottle cleaning bristle brush with a microfiber/sponge head.

Q: Does this humidifier have a night light?

submitted by Bb13mel - 8 years ago
  • A: It does not really have a night light. But does light up when it's on, it's very dim though

submitted byEK - 8 years ago
  • A: It has a small light that shows red or green to let you know whether or not there's enough water in the tank. I wouldn't call it a nightlight.

submitted byHB - 8 years ago

Q: I am a little confuse because in the description it states that the humidifier is filter free but if you look at the product itself there is a section to change out the filter. Please clarify! Thanks

submitted by SKM - 8 years ago
  • A: There is no filter. I believe there is an option for a filter if you want to use one, but it doesn't come with one and you don't have to use one. I believe it's a filter you just float into the tank if you choose too. I never have.

submitted byJd - 8 years ago
  • A: If you don't use a filter you need to use distilled water so the mineral deposits don't mess up the machine. It's easier to just buy the filter.

submitted byUnicornCrabcake - 8 years ago

Q: Which filter is recommended to buy for this to help with hard water? Thx

submitted by Jdefalco1978 - 8 years ago
  • A: It doesn't use a filter. I would actually recommend using distilled water to prevent it from clogging.

submitted byMelissa - 8 years ago
  • A: The standard crane filter...same as the ones for the animal shaped humidifiers. Definitely use a filter if you're not using distilled water, much easier than stocking up on a ton of that water if you use regularly. You don't wan't to use tap water without a filter or you can damage the humidifier.

Q: Can it be washed in the dishwasher?

submitted by Samantha - 1 month ago
  • A: This item is not dishwasher safe.

Q: Can I plug this into an extension cord?

submitted by FTM - 6 months ago
  • A: Yes this unit can be used with most extension cords.

Q: How do you change speed from low to med to high

submitted by Gdead1969 - 1 year ago
  • A: The dial on the front of the unit is what controls mist output. the further to the right you turn the dial, the higher the mist output.

Q: How to sanitize with vinegar

submitted by Mjc - 1 year ago
  • A: Please go through the following steps to clean your unit: • Add 3 Tablespoons of Vinegar and 1 ½ cups of warm water in the base • Rub the nebulizer with a cotton swab(circular item in the center of the base) • Let sit for 20-30 minutes • Use a toothbrush to scrub any residual mineral build up in the base, if applies • Add a half cup of distilled white vinegar to the water tank, along with a half tank of water. • Shake tank • Let sit for 20-30 minutes • Rinse tank and allow to air dry before using again

If I could give this zero stars, I would. I have bought four different ones, and every single one of them is broken after at least the first use. I used my newest one for one week and now there’s a stupid red light and it won’t work.

Light You Can't Turn Off

Aah - 2 months ago, Verified purchaser
Got this humidifier to replace an old, smaller Crane that I’d had for 5 years. It’s decently quiet, and it does its job. I haven’t had any issues with mold (in this model OR the old one) like other reviews have mentioned. HOWEVER…this model a green light inside the tank that you can’t turn off. It’s also in a place where you can’t just cover it with something, or else the tank won’t fit properly. I end up having to get up during the night to unplug it because the light is affecting my sleep. So it humidifies, but at the end of the day I still end up with a nosebleed because I can’t sleep with this thing on.

I have two of these (a slightly older model where the cord is attached to the body of the humidifier and that only has three mist settings - low, medium, and high) and a more current one. They are simple to use, but challenging to clean. Our previous humidifier was a vaporizer but we replaced that with a cool mist option when we had our baby. Pros: Cool mist, no heating elements so no danger of children/pets getting burned. No lingering light when in use. Mostly quiet operation. Aesthetically pleasing. I have had no issues with leaking or white dust. Positionable top gives you a little "aiming" control (although the tank in contoured in such a way that it only has a smooth silhouette if the nozzle is pointed mostly forward). No filter to replace. Cons: Challenging to fill tank, carry to unit, and reload without spilling water. Carry handle on tank is awkward and flimsy (handle on first unit broke). "White" color has a lavender colored translucent hold tank (vs a neutral frosted white). Runs continuously when in use, no way to monitor room humidity or prevent room from getting too damp. Not recommended for use with tap water (distilled only). Must clean by hand. Near impossible to clean thoroughly. The water tank is designed in such a way that water pools inside - the bottom of the tank is not correctly angled so that water always flows out of the fill hole. We primarily use our humidifier in the winter, and when I clean and dry it for the season I have to leave it out for at least three days to dry (usually a week) because it is so challenging getting the water to drain out. The tank is also one piece with a narrow hole too small to fit an adult's hand inside, therefore cleaning the inside of the tank is very limited. It is near impossible to wipe the inside the portion of the tank that is opposite the mist tube from the fill hole. I had some build up there and needed to soak in vinegar and use a bent wire and cotton balls to mostly get it clean, but still couldn't get in the crevices. If the tank was redesigned, cleaning would be significantly easier. The rest of the unit is not that bad, although there are some small crevices that are challenging to reach even with a cotton swab. Guidelines for cleaning humidifiers suggests that all parts dry thoroughly in between cleanings, which is impossible with this because the tank is such a design nightmare. Our older unit quickly gets significant buildup/slime and is very gunky after one week (Crane recommends cleaning weekly), our newer one less so. I'll confess I use city water and don't religiously dumped the tank each morning or clean the unit every 3 days as recommended by the EPA, but I'm willing to bet many other households don't either. I'm researching replacement options now, and it looks like you can get a similarly designed but maybe slightly less aesthetic humidifier that is easier to clean for half the price. Alternatively you can spend more but gain a lot in features, including humidity sensors, smart control, UV disinfection, ability to switch between cool and warm mist, and more. For the price and features, I don't think this is the best value, and would not recommend it based on the flawed tank design making it difficult to clean.

Impossible to properly clean

Great at first. But Impossible to properly clean. Small hole to pour water in, and you can’t fully clean it. I soaked it in a vinegar/water mix and then also tried a bleach/water mix, and my fingers could still feel slime around the bottom of the tank. Also difficult to fill since the hole is in the bottom and you have to flip the wet tank over to remove it and fill it, getting drips everywhere.

Super disappointed in this product… I purchased this in April and by October, it no longer worked. When I took it into the store to return it, I was turned down for a return/even exchange/anything because it was after the 90 day window. Not worth what you pay for it! Prior to it not working, I had cleaned and filled it like normal and it emptied the entire reservoir in 8 hours. The dresser it was still on was soaked, it shorted the fan that was in the room and left the top of the rug soaked. It was almost like the apparatus failed that caused it to disperse into the air and just all fell in one small place. Not sure if any other users have had this experience, but I sure wish I knew this would’ve happened prior to purchasing it.

Worked a time or 2, both of them the power cord plug and female input underneath the item have become corroded within a few uses. The water seems to leak, especially the 2nd one it has soaked everything when it leaked all over. These are poorly made and have wasted my money on them. Not sure if there's counterfeit made or what but yes as others have said they won't even turn on now (guessing due to electric parts getting water soaking through and corroding them). Very frustrating.
