Q: Is this able to be molded and stick around metal once dried?
A: Hey there! Once Model Magic has dried, it may be difficult to form around an armature. We'd suggest forming it around a piece of wire or foil before letting it air dry for best results. Need further assistance? Our Colorful Care Team is here to help at 1-800-CRAYOLA!

Q: Can you paint on it? What kind of paint?
A: Hi Thleeny, That is a great question! The dry Crayola Model Magic compound can be painted with Crayola Watercolor, Tempera, Acrylic, and washable paints or decorated with Crayola Markers. It takes about 72 hours to completely dry. Wet Model Magic can be colored with watercolor and markers, however, the colors will be lighter than those applied to the dried compound and the pieces may take longer to dry. In addition, wet Model Magic can be colored before modeling by kneading drops of watercolor, tempera, acrylic or washable paints in. We hope this helps! If you have any further questions, please give us a call at 1-800-Crayola.

Q: Does this clay harden when it dries?
A: Great question! Crayola Model Magic is an easy-to-use modeling compound that air dries. When dry, it is not pliable like a modeling clay product and feels like a foam cup - light and spongy. Hope this helps!

Q: is this clay gluten free
A: Glad you asked! Yes, Crayola Model Magic is gluten free. Although a product may not contain wheat, Crayola is not a gluten-free manufacturing facility. Since multiple Crayola products are produced in the same manufacturing facilities and on the same machinery, there is a slight chance of cross-contamination. While the protocols we follow are proprietary, I can confirm the machinery used to manufacture Crayola products is cleaned between production runs in a manner that meets or exceeds all regulations. Hope this helps!

Q: can you dye the white to be a different color?
A: Glad you asked! Dry Model Magic compound can be painted with Crayola Watercolor, Tempera, Acrylic, and washable paints or decorated with Crayola Markers. Wet Model Magic can be colored with watercolor and markers, however, the colors will be lighter than those applied to dried compound and the pieces may take longer to dry. Wet Model Magic can be colored before modeling by kneading drops of watercolor, tempera, acrylic or washable paints in. Happy creating!

Q: Can I bake this clay to make ring. This is a popular hint on TikTok where they take clay shape it then bake it and paint it. If I am able to bake this what heat and for how long.
A: Great question! Although in most cases we believe creativity has no limits, we don't recommend putting Crayola Model Magic in the oven. This modeling compound is meant to be air-dried. Exposing your sculpture to high heat sources will cause is to discolor, warp and crack. Hope this helps.

Q: Would this clay be ok to put on a doll (like a Barbie)?
A: Thanks for asking! We haven't tested our Model Magic to be used for this type of craft, so we are unsure of its results. If you would like to try it for yourself, we'd suggest testing it in a small, inconspicuous area. Happy creating!

Q: What is the difference between model magic and your air dry clay?
A: Thanks for asking! Air-Dry Clay will dry down to a hard, clay-like substance. Model Magic will remain somewhat pliable, and have a spongy texture to it. If you should need further assistance, please contact us at 1-800-CRAYOLA. Happy creating!

Q: Can I use this Crayola model magic I bought today in molds?
A: Thanks for asking! When using Model Magic in molds, we suggest pulling your object out of the mold right away. Do not allow the shapes to dry inside the molds, as all sides will not be exposed to air. For best results, let it air dry on wax paper overnight before decorating or painting. Happy creating!
