Good thing I didn't pay retail

I felt like I was forced to make this review when the company neglected to reply to my request for help. It was easy enough to start up the robot but his wheel to make him move seems jammed in place, so he just raises and lowers the marker and nothing else happens. The website and the app are made in such a way to be no help at all. When I tried to run the program to recalibrate the robot, or at least try, the page it requests doesn't exist.

Hello and I am so sorry to hear you did not get a response. We will be more than happy to help you with this. Did you purchase this Artie directly from us, if so, can you please provide me with the order number. Are the pens getting stuck? And as far as calibration- Artie Max Calibration Tool – Fine Tuning Your Calibration TIP: Keep two browser windows open at the same time. One open to the Artie Max UI page and the other open to the bottom of the calibration page where the calibration values are. Simple Fine Tuning Using Artie Max UI To fine tune calibration for the right and left positions, create a program that turns in only one direction. For example, a left-turning square in Artie Max UI would look like this: A square is an easy shape to fine tune because the corners indicate if you need to increase or decrease the variable. When calibrating the Left position, 1. If the corners cross, increase the Left Position variable. 2. After increasing the number, click Save New Calibration Values. TIP: You can change the variable as much or as little as you like. Moving in increments of 10 or 20 usually make significant changes in the drawing. 04.05.2022 Increase Left Position variable from 0 to 40 to reduce the size of the crosses at the corners. The corners are still crossed. 1. Increase the Left Position variable again from 40 to 80. 2. Click Save New Calibration Values. The corners of the square are now rounded. 1. Decrease the Left Position variable from 80 to 75. 2. Click Save New Calibration Values. And the Left Position is calibrated! Let me know if this helped. Or you can always email back here and we can work on other troubleshooting tips. Look forward to hearing from you.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Artie Max allows children to be able to learn coding in an engaging entertaining way. Children code the robot and then it completes their drawing. Artie has line detection and smart sensors that aids in the coding process.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My kids are obsessed! I was honestly pretty intimidated by this toy, as I have no clue how to code. It was so easy to pick up though and my kids all got the concept soooo fast! I have a 9 year old, 6 year old and 4 year old and they have ALL enjoyed playing with this so much. It is so fun to watch them learn and create in such a unique way. I've already told my mom friends that they should get this for their children. It is incredible!

Frustration, Fun, Frustration

3 out of 5 stars

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Artie Max arrived and we were all excited to code and play with him. I did a parent no no and forget to get him out right away to charge him but what came after that provided enough frustration that I was ready to toss him right out the door. I get needing to register and download software but it was not made easy. For this being a coding toy in 2022 the website was very basic and the guide to update Artie was a little painful. After a break from Artie we came back to only find out the program he uses is best on a tablet or desktop/laptop, some parents don't have these. Instead of being Bluetooth enable, allowing the device being used to still connect to the internet, it connects to its own Wi-Fi connection. This connection was spotty and made for logging into the website, which was glitchy, a little bit of a nightmare. When it did work I thought there would be a little tutorial on ow to use the program but what you get is whatever the instruction booklet provides. For younger kids this makes this educational device not ideal for parents who might want the child to play for 30 min while learning so we can accomplish another task. For me that task was setting up our next school day task. Each level only has one try this walkthrough and then you get to self discover. I did love that you weren't bond to the set program, you could use without the markers and that there was different programming. I would have loved to see a better walkthrough guide, a few game led coding sequences and a better explanation of each tab at the top. I personally wouldn't recommend this to my friends with kids close to the 8 age recommendation. The child needs to be able to read and comprehend step instructions well, how to take a picture and copy it with no help and be more self reliant. If you also want to play or go into this with a headspace of you sitting there as the parent and helping direct or correct then it might be a great device for your family.

Coding Robot for Kids who Love Code

3 out of 5 stars
Shaw Fam - 3 years ago

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] From a parent who is a programmer and a kid who loves Scratch and coding we had to give this a go. The interface was easy to connect to and navigate, the programs were all clear and tutorials helpful. We used a few types of paper on a clean desk surface and had trouble. Running the robot with different manually or preinstalled designs was easy but the robot did not cooperate. When it moved it seemed to get stuck and the marker would create a jumble in a space less than centimeter instead of executing the full design. We ran Artie on a full batterie as well. The idea is there but the robot needs to be lighter or the wheels more durable.

Fun when it works

The Dinklebot - 3 years ago
This reviewer received a free sample of this item
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product for free for my honest opinion. This device is a lot of fun when it works. It goes from simple to much more advanced complex coding. It is a great way to get your kids feet wet in the coding world. The issue I had which was a big one is that it rarely would connect. I tried on multiple PCs, tablets and phones and I could only get it to connect about 7% of the time. Then once your are connected the Artie Max I had would often disconnect and then would not reconnect. Once it disconnected in the middle of the drawing it would stay going in whatever direction it was heading until I flipped the switch off. I went to the website and updated the firmware. I troubleshooted with the limited information provided. The other part to keep in mind if you have a young kid and an older one beware of the younger kid jamming a marker in the marker spot with the lid on. It was nearly impossible to get the lid out but after 45 minutes of frustration we got it out. Overall it's an impressive unit they should give up on the self projected Wi-Fi and use either your local Wi-Fi or USB to connect to code. The onboard Wi-Fi is awful and takes an incredibly long time to load the local website through the Artie Max. I have read about their previous model and it sounds like they eventually solved most the connectivity issues on that one so maybe someday in the future this will get the much needed patch to solve that issue. Until then I cannot recommend this product.
1 reply from Educational Insights team - 3 years ago
Hello and Thank you for sharing your experience. You stated you updated the firmware and that you were connected, but keeps loosing connection. I am wondering if you have selected Artie to "auto connect" to Artie's Wi-Fi? That may be the cause of loosing connections as well as other interferences. As far as the Marker Parker getting stuck, we do know those things can happen and we do have troubleshooting solutions to get that unstuck. Feel free to reach out any time if you do need help. Otherwise, I will be sure to pass this information along to our team. We are always looking for ways to improve our products and could not do that without your feedback, so again - greatly appreciate it. Thanks for the continued support in our products and Happy Coding!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It took us a couple of tries before we could find a device that Artie would work on. We couldn't do it on the tablet because we needed the internet and Artie was connected via the internet and another computer was just having issues. Once we were able to get it working, my 9 yr old had a great time with it. She did the demos, but quickly started figuring out how to make other shapes. Luckily we have giant old construction plans so we did not have to worry about space on the paper, but I can see how that could be an issue.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The robot is a very engaging gift for a child that likes to learn new skills. This is a great introduction for anyone interested in coding and following directions. My daughter loved being able to use the robot to draw and create something all by herself. It's nice to be able to hang up the works of art she has created using Artie.

First I set up password for wifi that when it keep tell me pass word was wrong and couldn't reset it.. I just gave up when trying to multiple time
1 reply from Educational Insights team - 3 years ago
Hello, I know you stated you tried this, but please attempt to do the following below and let me know how it goes. With the password reset it’s not so obvious to press, release, and WAIT for green eyes to flash. You have to REPEAT that 3 times to reset the password. See “side note” below for a reference. 1. Press the reset button once, then wait about six seconds. Artie’s eyes will flash green. 2. Press the button a second time and wait for Artie’s eyes to flash green. 3. Press the button a third time. Artie’s eyes will flash yellow-green when the password is reset. 4. Turn Artie Max off and back on. 5. Reconnect to the Artie Wi-Fi. 6. Open a new browser and sign on to local.artiemax.com. if it doesn’t ask you for a password, refresh the window. Just a side note: When you press the reset button it takes a minute for Artie Max to respond. Usually I count to six. Then Artie Max’s eyes turn green. That is when you press the reset button again. So, press the button Wait for eyes to flash green Press the button a second time Wait for eyes to flash green Press the button a third time and the eyes flash a yellow-green color. If you wait for a minute, Artie Max will make the start-up sound and you can log back in to the Artie Max WiFi. Then when you open local.artiemax.com, the UI will ask you to set a new password. Please let us know if this helps. Thank you!

The little robot that did it's best

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After setting it up and giving it a whirl I have some feedback. As an adult I thought it was cool, a bit clunky and kind of glitchy. So sometimes slot 1 of it's marker carousel would not deploy the marker fully. Sometimes when it was coded to switch makers it would spin back to the same slot. Although in the directions it said 8.5 x 11 paper, what you really need is a whole table top full of paper or your designs are limited to what fits into the page, which is not much. Even at fully charged it would randomly through a beeping fit and turn off it's face. My children, ages 9 and 12 both enjoyed it. They liked the coding aspect of it. They thought it was a funny little robot. Glady it was one of those take over the world variety. Kinks aside it's a cool learning tool.
