Gave this to my 5 y/o grandson for Christmas. He used it once and his 6 y/o sister used it once and the gears on the screwdriver became stripped! Very disappointed!!

This is the second time I've responded. The drill does not work. I bought new batteries, it didn't work. I returned them and bought another pack. The drill didn't work. I borrowed batteries from a neighbor, it still didn't work. It's extremely frustrating and disappointing, especially after reading the other reviews.

Love this toy. My two year old and 4 year old play with it almost daily. It has two light up options- the first is a solid light, and the second lights up according to noise. We've had this for a year and it still works perfectly.

Spanned ages in our house

My two girls ages 4 and 7 both have fun with this drill set. The older one especially likes that the lights flash in response to sound and the older one just likes to drill. A few weeks after the girls got it for Christmas, the drill unexpectedly died. A couple of emails with the company and I had a new one in the mail in days. Excellent customer service is always appreciated!

This is a great product! My girls (5&2) absolutely love the design options as well as creating their own. They love the option to light it up or have it react to sound. We look forward to using it often!!

Little ones will love to design and watch the sparkles

Remember the old light brights from our youth? This is like the new and approved and way more fun for kids version!! Kids will play for hours using the drill to fill up the board with bolts and then take them all out again. It is perfect for developing fine motor skills. The best part is after your child is done creating, then the board lights up when the child talks, music plays. The drill does not come with batteries, so make sure you have them on hand when your little one starts to get creative! Promotes problem solving, getting creative, fine motor skills and imagination. I received this item for free or at a reduced price in exchange for my honest, unbiased review. All opinions are my own

This toy just makes me smile. The second you turn it on both kids and adults want in on the fun. I love how it reminds me of my childhood toy and that my kids are playing with something so much cooler. We have a few other of the Design and Drills, but this one is the best and really does sparkle. The designs are super fun and I love that you can just drill if that's what you want to do. Make sure you've got batteries on hand, because the fun is just beginning with this toy. We also make a point to make sure it gets turned off when done. All great lessons in life and learning.

This product reminds me of the Lite Brights that I grew up with except instead of just pushing pegs in, you get to use a tool to put them in. Cased on my experience, kids love it when they get to build and use tools so this aspect of the product, makes it very intriguing. Love the sparkles in this set. Love the sound activation aspect as well. Of course, anything that glows in the dark is awesome as well :) This is a great product. I received this product in exchange for my honest review.

A Fantastic Addition to Our Design & Drill Collection!

5 out of 5 stars
The Rock Father - 9 years ago
originally posted on http://www.educationalinsights.com
As an Educational Insights Insider, we received this toy for review in our State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility here at Rock Father HQ (our house). We have a lot of Design & Drill items in our collection, and they've always tapped into that natural desire for kids to want to build and create. At the most basic level, they love to "put things together like mommy and daddy," but with the colored drill bits and bolts, here they can make fancy patterns or just do some freestyle art. Out of all of our sets, this one became a fast favorite, with the light-up function in some ways recalling Lite-Brite style play, and the new light-up drill moving faster (and brighter) than our other Design & Drill tools. The big bonus here is the sound-activated flashing lights, which have the ability to create an instant dance party. It's like having Saturday Night Fever on the art desk, and that's something I can get behind! Some great STEM action in this set for little makers!

Modern Day "lite bright"!

-We are part of the El Play Panel and received this product for review purpose. All opinions expressed are my own. We have some other design and drill toys but so far this is our favorite! It brought back memories of my old "lite bright" toy with several advances! This set comes with a light up board, bolts, and a drill. An idea book is included for designs but my four year old daughter prefers to make her own. It is great for building fine motor skills, eye hand coordination, and creativity. I highly recommend this set!

Hands-on fun for 4+

Our kids have a great time with this set. Our 5-year-old daughter loves that the bolts have sparkles in them and that she gets to use a "power tool" to put them into the base. The lights are responsive to sound to a point...not as accurately as we hoped, but our kids get a kick out of making the lights flicker as they clap and stomp by the base. The screwdriver button is a little stiff for a child younger than 4-5. Our 3 year old struggles with it so he just manually screws the bolts in. Overall it's a fun little spin on a Light Bright...just maybe not as successful.

My child like creating designs and drilling in the bolts but the box did not light up or respond to sounds. She was very disappointed. I tried alternate batteries but believe it was the toy itself, unfortunately.

Huge hit around here!

This is an enourmous hit around here - not just with my two kids, but any kid that comes through our doors. My daughter- 4-years-old - loves creating designs, sorting by color, making shapes, etc. We have the flower power set as well and this one has a bit more of a wow factor. I don't typically buy such gender specific toys - but my son (2.5) and daughter both adore this set and have pulled it out consistently over the last few weeks!

Great concept!

This is a great concept. My daughters love tools. They love the colors, the fact that it lights up (especially the sound activated lights), and the different designs included in the book. My 4.5yo is having a hard time grasping the drill and pressing the button at the same time. We'll have to work on her coordination. I think the weight of it tires her hand out a little as well. It's definitely a toy that will keep her interest and grow with her. I have to help her with the drill now, but I'm sure she'll be able to do it on her own soon enough and then she'll love creating her own designs.

My 3year old daughter loves to play with this. She can manipulate the screw driver to take the screws in and out without assistance. I am going to use this to work on patterns with her. There are several pattens to follow. I also want to take it to school and try it with my center-based, special education class (if I can get it away from her.) :)

My 5.5 year old daughter really enjoyed this toy. After I showed her how to work the drill, she was able to play with the toy on her own and it kept her busy for 1 hour. She loves following the patterns in the book. The light up feature was an added bonus! I would definitely recommend this toy as a unique gift.
